Ridgewood Sanitation Services During Snow and Icy Weather
Dear E-Notice Residents,
Due to the recent snow and ice conditions we are requiring that for the foreseeable future your sanitation containers have to be placed on the curb, by the driveway, for pick up. Last week we tried a hybrid approach in telling residents that we would continue rear yard pick-up if the driveways were free and clear of snow and ice. Unfortunately this caused some confusion. We also had four accidents last week of our staff falling and two needing to go to the hospital.
I know that for me personally this morning there was snow and ice on my driveway which was not there last evening. We placed our garbage out by the curb. The sanitation workers come around early during the coldest portion of the day. There are municipalities that suspend rear yard pick-up for the entire season for this reason. We would prefer to keep the services at a normal level whenever possible.
Once we resume normal pick-up we will send E-Notices as well as post to our website.
Thanks for your continued cooperation.
I did all that stuff plus warming up the van and wait for Spring to arrive a little earlier. Have a nice day — perhaps the crocus will start to pop up and tell me it’s time to warm up the Village a little. What are your plans for the day?
Some homes have had the cans out for over a week.
These lazy idiots don’t bring the cans in after they are empty.
This place is starting to look a lot like waldwick.
Amazing how many lazy sloths refuse to clear the snow around fire hydrants.
My favorite snow violation was the asshole construction crew that refused to shovel the sidewalk in front of the house that they are working on. Kids and parents pass this house twice a day enroute to the local grammar school.
I wish RPD would ticket these guys.

Also just as galling is the construction crew that fails to shovel the sidewalk for the house that they’re working on. Kids and parents pass by this house twice a day en route to the local grammar school.
I wish that RPD would ticket these guys…
Ticket whomever owns that building for sale on Oak Street. They haven’t shoveled all winter.
This “until further notice” is the beginning of the end for rear yard collection, by the way. I personally don’t care, but I suppose lots of old timers will be torqued about it.
As long as people take their cans back in, the neighborhoods will still look nice. The real issue is the people who put loose cardboard and paper recyclables out on a windy night before pick up. It winds up all over the place.
You will never end rear yard pick up
I know all the newbies from Manhattan are used to piles of crap on the curb
It’s one of the few nice things that differentiate us from the other towns.
The cost is INSIGNIFICANT vs curbside.
Might was well allow boats, motor homes, dump trucks to park here too.
I for one will be ptutting up the for sale sign, thus allowing some newby with kids to fill the empty 5 bedrooms here adding to the school population.
Be careful what you wish for.
Yes lots of us old timers will find another reason to leave, and you newbies will no longer h age us to subsidiE your kids in school. So watch your taxes skyrocket when we leave for warmer climates, or for saddle river
4:34pm, you are not an old-timer. You are full of crap and just trying to start trouble. Story was about how it’s dangerous for VOR workers to walk down icy driveways. Thats it. Nothing else. So don’t try to change the subject to a pissing contest, because you will lose.
Move already. We won’t miss you.
to 8:18 am…what’s wrong with Waldwick? Why don’t you confront the “lazy idiots” as you call them? Oh, I forgot, it’s easy to hide and snipe online…. and I’ve never had a problem with the collection crews..nice guys, always polite, leave the cans where they belong and very reliable.
I love all the can’s all over the place, it looks great.
Well…bye.
453 did you just move here from ny?
This place used to be nice before all you pushy inconsiderate asshats moved here with your piss poor attitudes.
I’d say living here 52 years qualifies me to make. My observations.
Never had kids in the schools, so I have been subsidizing you arrogant loudmouth people for years.
If the services change here, plan to pay a lot more in taxes as there are a lot of people who llive here that will be putting the for sale signs up.
Certain things differentiate this village from the other towns in the area .
Unfortunately the arrogant inconsiderate big mouth new residents detract from the nice things.
8:10am I’ve lived here for nearly 30 years. I am also qualified to make my observations. Do you want to continue to pull down your pants or has the cold shrunk your memories a little? My kids went to Ridgewood High School, but I think my taxes covered that, not you.
I have seen several lovely families move in around my neighborhood. They keep up their homes, have cute kids, and I welcome them to our neighborhood. Same as maybe you welcomed me years ago, before your bitterness took over? If I am unhappy with the services, my taxes, or anything else, I will move. You should do the same. Its pretty simple. This discussion was about garbage pick-up and safety of the workers. When you see them picking up your garbage at the curb, instead of near your kitchen door, rush outside and give them a piece of your mind. Tell them all about your 52 years here. Tell them to slip on the ice because you are too self-important to bring the trash to the street. Good luck.
902 it’s quite apparent you only see what you want. The response was to an earlier poster that said this was the beginning of the end of rear yard pick up .
I never made reference to the garbage collectors
Get it now dipshit?
And yes 902 MY taxes subsidized your ofd spring in the schools.
In all fairness, if only those with children in the schools paid for it, then your taxes would double.
So I hope that my spending on your kids made them more intelligent than their parent, who sounds like a real dim bulb.
People who have to work for a living and get up at 6 a.m. and get home at 7 p.m. don’t have time to complain about what hour and second the cans are removed from the curb.
Go to a senior center and play checkers please; you’re mood will improve.
Well, you have the hurling of minor profanities and insults by some bitter folks in cyberspace. Very courageous. Anonymous bravery. Bottom line to me is the sanitation folks work hard and yes, some folks dont pull their cans within minutes of the trucks going by and yes, some folks leave them out for a few days. I dont think you have to condemn everyone that has lived here less than 30 years as classless newbies who dont pull in their cans immediately. And I think rearyard collection is here for the immediate future and I am willing to drag my trash to the curb when the weather creates the mess it has done recently.
