Ridgewood NJ, according to The Ridgewood Shade Tree Division , they are responsible for the maintenance and care of approximately 15, 000 Village owned street trees on 100 miles of public ways, as well as additional trees and shrubs in parks and on other public grounds. This includes all aspects, such as removal, planting, and pruning. The Shade Tree Division does a tree planting for Arbor Day, which is usually the last Friday in April. The division currently offers a memorial tree/bench program to honor the memory of a friend or family member.

The great debate in the Village is how to protect and nourish Village shade trees . While many residents are opposed to clear cutting and very concerned about all the new construction in town that seems to always involve cutting down large trees , most residents also seem opposed to more village regulation as to what you can or can not do on your own property with your own trees  .

  1. All I know is that. Department is overwhelmed with tree work, and they are so short on workers, but They do the best They can and they do a great job .

  2. They will never catch up, if we have another nor’easter like Sandy or hurricane Floyd. The village is doomed because they lost so many employees that they never replaced with a bad experience is gone. So they would have to call outside contractors and pay through the ass. And that’s no bullshit. I’m glad I retired

  3. 7:01: So it’s better to pay full time workers (and give gold plated retirements and benefits) just in case something happens instead of only paying the outside contractors when we actually need them? If you were in management at village hall I’m glad you retired too.

  4. I would have gotten rid of the Shade Tree Commission before the Financial Advisory Committee but that just shows this council’s priorities.

  5. Nero fiddled while Rome burned…..let them eat cake…VOR cares not for your private properties …too busy issuing warnings threats and photographs about what their shade trees are doing to your local sidewalks and you will pay Big to fix them every 5 years ..

  6. This Council is juts out for political retribution and enriching their families with Village jobs. They have no interest in improving the quality of life for Villagers. The shade tree debate is just a distraction to hide the conflicts of interest at Village Hall. Shame on the Mayor and her lackeys.

  7. To 844 . No I was not management you jackass. Why would I ever want to do that. With no backing from up top, no way in hell. What the taxpayers are saying is that most of the village apartments are so short in staff that they can’t even keep up with the every day work that needs to be done the maintenance. Some of you at the top have your head up your ass. The work will never get done unless you hire more people and not part-time help or seasonal or just pay The outside contractor big money, and that’s not working is it this village went down in the past few years because of low staffing. Anytime anywhere any place I Will meet you or anybody else and prove you all wrong until then kiss my ass

  8. Westside crew is just reading this post from 844, we find this very offensive that we are paying big taxes for service and we’re not getting it . The services went down, so how can you justify that some departments will never cut, why was that. Oh yeah the water department was paying for other departments police fire real nice what a scam I handful of workers cannot do what needs to be done. There’s no cuts in a fight apartment with the police department. So don’t cry when we tell u the town looks horrible. It’s my taxes not working I want my trees cut pruned, Street repaved, parks nice and clean.

  9. I. Love. All of this.

  10. real serious issues that need attention..can’t be hidden forever with
slum making parking structures boing built for developers ..restauranteurs needs are a foil…
