A local temple will give residents a fun opportunity to celebrate the last night of Hanukkah at a party scheduled for Sunday evening.
The event, which is to occur at Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Israel (RCBI), will feature food and refreshments for attendees, according to Caryn Starr-Gates of RCBI.
“Pizza, potato pancakes, salad and jelly doughnuts are on the menu,” she said via e-mail, explaining that the latkes and doughnuts are part of the Jewish holiday’s traditional.
“They are cooked in oil,” she said, stating that this method ties “into the Hanukkah miracle story about the scarcity of available oil when the Jews re-entered the pillaged temple, but there being enough for eight days to light their way as they reclaimed and rededicated the temple.”
The event will be suitable for residents of all ages.
