RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Early morning traffic was affected on Friday, June 27, as Ridgewood Water conducted an important infrastructure upgrade on Glen Avenue, between Oak Street and Upper Boulevard, near the Ridgewood Art Institute. The project marks a critical milestone in the construction of the new Glen Avenue Booster Station, which is designed to improve water flow to low-pressure areas in both Ridgewood and Midland Park.

đź’§ Overnight Work and Morning Lane Closures

Ridgewood Water crews worked overnight in preparation for the installation of a 26,400-pound prefabricated concrete vault. The structure will house booster pumps that will significantly enhance water pressure in areas currently experiencing low flow.

From 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., traffic patterns were adjusted:

  • Eastbound Glen Avenue was reduced to one lane for the first six hours.

  • Both lanes were fully closed between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. to allow for the vault installation.

Ridgewood Police were on-site to direct traffic and ensure public safety, while detours were clearly marked to assist drivers navigating the affected zone.

🛠️ Final Closure for Glen Avenue Booster Station Project

This installation represents the final planned road closure for the Glen Avenue Booster Station, a major improvement project aimed at ensuring reliable water pressure throughout the Ridgewood Water system.

The station will help stabilize water service in the surrounding neighborhoods, including parts of Midland Park, where low-pressure complaints have been persistent.

🚧 Project Impact and Community Support

While the project temporarily impacted morning commutes, local officials emphasized its long-term benefits.

“This vault installation is a critical piece of the puzzle,” said a Ridgewood Water spokesperson. “We appreciate residents’ patience and cooperation as we work to improve the infrastructure serving their homes and businesses.”

  1. What is it going to look like when it’s done?

  2. Who cares the water is still going to taste like junk
