The sole vendor authorized to sell Neptune water meters in New Jersey will be paid no more than $500,000 to supply Ridgewood Water with the new equipment and parts as the village continues upgrades to its distribution system.

Village Council members last Wednesday approved the contract with Rio Supply Inc. of Sicklerville for the purchase of the equipment. The new water meters and individual meter components will be installed at properties throughout the entire Ridgewood Water system.

Resolutions formalizing the contract passed without opposition last week, though council members previously scrutinized the award because of the perceived lack of other bidders and price comparison. Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli and Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh each raised questions about competitive bidding and how Ridgewood Water ended up in a situation where it could buy meters and parts from only one firm.
