RIDGEWOOD, NJ – Good news for local athletes! The Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Department has announced that Maple Field is now open for sports and athletic activities after undergoing necessary maintenance following last week’s flood.
The field was temporarily closed after Ho-Ho-Kus Brook overflowed, leaving the area waterlogged. Despite Ridgewood receiving 1.86 inches of rain—far less than the 6.6 inches seen in other parts of New Jersey—it was still enough to cause flooding at Maple Field and surrounding areas.
Thanks to swift action by Parks & Recreation staff, the cleanup and field restoration were completed quickly. The field reopened for sports play yesterday, much to the delight of local youth teams and community members.
Village Manager Keith Kazmark expressed his appreciation, saying, “Thanks to our Parks & Recreation staff for their diligent work in getting our kids back on Maple.”
🌊 Flooding Concerns and Future Solutions
Flooding has been a recurring challenge for Ridgewood, particularly around Hohokus Brook and the Saddle River. To address this issue, the Water Resources Development Act authorized a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study in December, which will analyze flood patterns and help design both short- and long-term flood control solutions for the village.
🏞 What’s Next for Ridgewood?

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about upcoming public meetings and community updates regarding flood mitigation efforts.

How much did the cleanup cost? BOE is spending over $50K to cleanup their properties.
Wash, rinse, and repeat.
Too dangerous to use this field today with the extreme heat warning.
I’m going there at 2 o’clock and take temperatures. I’m sure it’ll be 120° or more
Don’t forget to drink lots of water before you go.
The good news is the Village can bury the cost and nobody will know.
