Flash Floods Cause Chaos in North Jersey: BMW Trapped Under Glen Rock Railroad Trestle Prompting Mass Water Rescues

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Severe flash flooding struck North Jersey on Monday evening, July 27, 2026, creating hazardous driving conditions and triggering multiple emergency water rescues across Bergen and Passaic counties.
Among the most critical incidents was a dangerous situation under the NJ Transit railroad tracks on Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. Rising floodwaters rapidly engulfed a dark-colored BMW X3, temporarily trapping two occupants inside.
Narrow Escape on Maple Avenue
According to local reports, both occupants managed to self-extricate from the submerged vehicle just moments before a Glen Rock Police Department patrol officer arrived at the scene.
When a local tow truck arrived to clear the roadway, emergency crews were unable to immediately tow the vehicle due to the extreme depth of the water under the railroad overpass.
