RIDGEWOOD/HO-HO-KUS, NJ — A violent two-vehicle collision resulting in a rollover closed a major North Jersey thoroughfare for several hours on Saturday night, February 7, 2026.
The crash, which occurred on North Maple Avenue, triggered a massive emergency response as crews worked to stabilize the scene and treat five injured individuals.
The Scene: Rollover and Road Closure
The accident took place during the late evening hours between East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood and Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. The impact was severe enough to flip one of the vehicles onto its roof, leaving debris scattered across both lanes of traffic.
Authorities were forced to shut down North Maple Avenue in both directions for an extended period while investigators and recovery teams cleared the wreckage.
Injuries and Emergency Transport
First responders confirmed that five individuals sustained injuries in the wreck.
-
Critical Transport: At least one victim required urgent care and was transported via ambulance to the trauma center at Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus.
-
On-Site Evaluation: The remaining four victims were evaluated at the scene by EMTs from the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Ambulance Corps. While their immediate conditions were stabilized, their status regarding further hospital transport remained unconfirmed at the time of the cleanup.
Multi-Agency Response
The location of the crash near the municipal border required a seamless joint effort between neighboring towns. Teams working the scene included:
-
Ridgewood Police Department (Patrol Division): Managed the complex road closure and initial accident investigation.
-
Ridgewood Fire Department & EMS: Provided extrication support and fire suppression standby.
-
Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Ambulance Corps: Assisted with triage and medical evaluation of the multiple victims.
-
Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47: On-site to handle hazards related to the heavily damaged, overturned vehicles.
Traffic Advisory: North Maple Avenue Safety
Both vehicles involved suffered extensive structural damage and were towed from the location. Residents are reminded that North Maple Avenue, particularly the stretch leading into Ho-Ho-Kus, can be prone to high speeds and reduced visibility at night.
As of Sunday morning, February 8, the roadway has been reopened to all traffic. Ridgewood Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision to determine if speed or weather conditions played a role.
