Fast Action Saves Home: East Rutherford Fire Department Quick-Stops Kitchen Fire on Rose Street

The East Rutherford Fire Department (ERFD) demonstrated rapid and effective firefighting skills this evening, quickly containing a residential structure fire and ensuring the safety of all occupants.
At approximately 5:00 PM, ERFD was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Rose Street with the initial possibility of residents being trapped inside. Fortunately, upon arrival, crews confirmed the best possible news: all occupants had safely evacuated the building before the department’s arrival.
The Attack and Containment
Firefighters observed smoke showing from the rear of the structure. A hose line was immediately advanced to the second-floor apartment, where members quickly located a fire centered in the kitchen area.
- Swift Control: The ERFD worked efficiently, bringing the fire under control in under 20 minutes.
- Mutual Aid Support: The Wallington Fire Department provided crucial support, with their FAST Team (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) responding to the scene for rapid intervention. Additionally, a Wallington engine provided station coverage at the Herman Street Firehouse, ensuring the rest of the community remained protected.
Thanks to the professionalism and speed of the ERFD and the supporting mutual aid, a potentially serious structure fire was contained to the area of origin.
Investigation Underway by Fire Prevention Bureau
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the East Rutherford Fire Prevention Bureau. The preliminary success in controlling the blaze quickly highlights the importance of working smoke detectors and having a pre-planned escape route, which allowed all residents to exit safely.
This incident serves as a critical reminder to all residents to check their smoke detectors monthly and practice fire escape drills regularly.
