Glen Rock NJ, at approximately 545 pm Wednesday, the height of rush hour the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a smoke condition on a NJ Transit train at the Borough Hall Train Station. Firefighters assisted in extinguishing a small fire in the wheel housing of one of the train cars. Also on scene was Glen Rock Police , NJ Transit Police and NJ Transit rail operations.
UPDATE: A heavy smoke condition in a passenger car on a westbound NJ Transit Bergen Line train, forced complete evacuation of the train at Glen Rock’s Boro Hall Station early Wednesday evening, 02/08. Passengers on board were directed to other trains, or to nearby buses to reach their intended destinations. Some passengers elected to use ride share services instead. Bergen Line rail service in both directions was delayed for between 30-45 minutes. The affected train was sidelined at Boro Hall while firefighters used thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the smoke’s origin. Crews from NJ Transit Rail Operations assisted in the investigation process. It is believed the train was taken out of service following its release by Glen Rock fire officials. No injuries were reported by any passengers or crew members. Glen Rock Police and NJ Transit Police officers provided on scene crowd & motor vehicle traffic control throughout the incident.
