Rutherford Man Charged With Killing His Brother

Rutherford NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of URIEL ADAMES-GOMEZ (DOB: 7/12/1991; single; unemployed) of 346 Union Avenue, Apt 1B, Rutherford, NJ, on charges of Murder and Possession Of A Weapon For An Unlawful Purpose. The arrest is the result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton, and the Rutherford Police Department under the direction of Chief John R. Russo.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Rutherford Police Department received a 911 call from URIEL ADAMES-GOMEZ stating that he had stabbed and killed his brother. Upon their arrival, Rutherford Police located URIEL ADAMES-GOMEZ in front of 346 Union Avenue, Rutherford, and he was placed into custody. Officers then entered Apartment 1B to conduct a welfare check and discovered Gabriel Adames-Gomez (DOB: 11/06/1993) deceased. The officers observed a large kitchen knife on the floor near his body and a pool of suspected blood near the victim. Rutherford Police then secured the crime scene and notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations Unit.

An investigation revealed that during a domestic violence incident, URIEL ADAMES-GOMEZ stabbed the victim multiple times. On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, URIEL ADAMES-GOMEZ was arrested and charged with one count of Murder, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), a 1st degree crime; and one count of Possession Of A Weapon For An Unlawful Purpose, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, a 3rd degree crime. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Rutherford Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.

  3. Both brothers had emotional issues(severe) from the time they were very small. They were behind the eight ball from their very beginnings. This was definitely a case of the system failing. They never should have been on their own together.
