Saddle Brook Police Officer Arrested Following Use-of-Force Investigation

Saddle  Brook NJ, A Saddle Brook police officer faces multiple criminal charges following an internal use-of-force investigation in Bergen County, New Jersey.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 43-year-old Attilio Dente, an officer employed by the Saddle Brook Police Department. Dente has been charged with aggravated assault, tampering with public records, and obstruction of justice following a probe directed by Chief Jeff Angermeyer.

The Investigation: Alleged Assault and Deactivated Body Camera

The case began on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, when the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received a tip-off from within the Saddle Brook Police Department regarding potential violations of its strict use-of-force policy.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. While attempting to make an arrest, Officer Dente allegedly:

• Struck a male suspect in the head using his service firearm, causing bodily injury.

• Submitted a false entry on the official police incident report.

• Intentionally deactivated his body-worn camera while processing the scene.

Official Charges Filed

Following the investigation, Dente was arrested on Thursday, July 2, 2026. He faces the following specific statutory charges under New Jersey law:

• Third-Degree Aggravated Assault (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2))

• Third-Degree Tampering with Public Records (N.J.S.A. 2C:28-7a(1))

• Fourth-Degree Obstructing the Administration of Law (N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a)

Dente has been released from custody pending his next scheduled court appearance.

Prosecutor Musella emphasized that these charges are merely accusations at this time, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
