RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 is reminding all residents and visitors to stay clear of emergency blockades—they’re there for your safety, not your inconvenience.

Recently, the department responded to an emergency where live electrical wires created a serious hazard. The area was properly cordoned off using cones and caution tape. Despite this, some individuals attempted to move cones or bypass the tape—a dangerous and unacceptable action.

🚨 Why This Matters

When the Ridgewood Fire Department blocks off a roadway, it’s not for show—it’s because the area poses a real and immediate threat, such as:

  • Live downed electrical wires

  • 🔥 Fire scenes

  • 🚒 Hazmat incidents

  • 🚧 Structural damage

These blocked zones remain restricted until public utility crews can safely shut down power and perform necessary repairs.

🧯 A Message from FMBA Local 47

“We are here to look out for your safety, not to inconvenience you,” said a spokesperson from FMBA Local 47. “Please do not attempt to drive or walk through coned-off areas or past caution tape. We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding.”

✅ What You Can Do

  • Respect all emergency barriers and personnel

  • Don’t move cones or duck under caution tape

  • Report any suspicious or dangerous activity to authorities

  • Share this safety reminder with friends and family

🙏 Thank You for Your Cooperation

Ridgewood’s firefighters are committed to protecting the community. Your cooperation during emergencies helps ensure the safety of first responders and the public alike.

  1. Why does anyone have to be “reminded”? It is beyond clear. If someone can read and/or has common sense then it’s on them!
