Schools turn to peer mediation to battle bullying

Instilling character education and anti-bullying lessons into the daily fabric of school curriculum has been a longtime venture in many New Jersey districts.

But the advent of the state’s revised law regarding harassment, intimidation and bullying incidents — considered the strictest in the nation — has brought anti-bullying measures into the forefront in every district. The tough legislation was catalyzed by the suicide last year of Rutgers-New Brunswick freshman Tyler Clementi, who felt harassed over being gay.  (Rothschild, Gannett)
