Council sets just 1 date for public hearing on downtown housing

Boyd A. LovingRidgewood NJ, In 2011, Village Council members scheduled their official public hearing on The Valley Hospital’s proposed expansion over six (6) separate dates.  The schedule was developed to insure there would be ample opportunity for members of the public to express their views of the issue, and that no individual(s) would miss out due to planned business travel/vacation, family emergency, illness, etc.  The public hearing dates were:  9/13/2011, 9/19/2011, 10/13/2011, 10/24/2011, 11/22/2011, and 11/29/2011.  Current Mayor Paul Aronsohn was a member of that Council.

On July 15 of this year, Village Council members expect to introduce four (4) separate ordinances related to proposed changes in the Village’s Master Plan that would permit high density housing in our Central Business District.  There has been significant controversy associated with the proposed Master Plan revision.

During Wednesday evening’s Village Council Work Session, Mayor Paul Aronsohn announced the Council’s firm intent to set September 16, 2015 as the one and onlydate for their official public hearing on all four (4) “changes to Master Plan” related ordinances.  That’s right folks, if you’re not around on September 16, or if the meeting room is closed off due to over crowding, you’re SOL.

So I wonder, why is Mr. Aronsohn so hell bent on pushing these Master Plan changes through to the point of scheduling just one (1) official opportunity for residents to comment?  He was a primary proponent of a former Council’s plan to allow multiple opportunities for official public comment regarding The Valley Hospital expansion plan.  Why the change in attitude related to high density housing in our Central Business District?  What’s the rush?  Am I missing something here?

  1. Typical of the 3 Amigos and how they do thing. 1 meeting on such an important item and of all times in July when people are away. They certainly will have their Lackeys there to speak and the Mayors Press Secretary ( Chris Harris) to report their positive feed back.

  2. The answer is simple. The mayor doesn’t want any input from the public as he has already made up his mind and has made promises to his political friends

  3. Nope, you are not missing anything here. He wants to railroad this though as fast as he can. And he will. Staynout of the way of Paul and Albert or they will run you right the hell over on their way to wrecking our little town.

  4. Screwed again.

  5. The question is will the Ridgewood residents vote these three in again as they did before? Thats if they decide to run again. In any case the thing that they are putting in place now will be irreversible

  6. Well they must have done something right to get elected.

May 8, 2012 Ridgewood Municipal Election Results

There were 3 open seats on the Village Council. The 3 candidates with the highest number of votes will be taking office July 1, 2012 for a 4 year term.

    Albert J. Pucciarelli – 2078

    Keith Killion – 1711

    Rissell R Forenza – 817

    Paul Aronsohn – 2479

    Mary Jane Shinozuka – 1484

    Gwenn H Hauck – 1727

  7. 9:39

That was then. This is now. They have proven themselves to be train wrecks. The voters will, have their say in less than a year., bye bye to the three musketeers.

  8. Yeah, well Knudsen and Sedon received 2,723 and 2,588 votes, respectively. Jim Albano received 1,021 votes.

Knudsen and Sedon came across as against over expansion and were supported by Citizens for a Better Ridgewood, Concerned Residents of Ridgewood, and the Preserve Graydon Coalition.

Fool me once, not twice…the gang of three have no shot at re-election.

  9. Albert, you are clinging to your numbers from three years ago. Sorry Pal, you have lost all your cachet.

  10. Hey 9:39 am: Wake up and stop dreaming about the past. The candidate your trio supported in the last election got trounced. That’s what’s going to happen in 2016 as well.

  11. Re-elect Paul, Albert and Gwen for 2016. Help them finish what they started. They will take this dying town and fix it. Help them bring us into the 23 Century

  12. No they will not 11:20. They will gin up their base and drill down the votes need and it will all be transparent. If one does not run they will have a surrogate right up there, back by White Horse Strategist and Chris Harris will be writing the fluff article in the record paper.

  13. Well if Paul Vagianos doesn’t get elected in Trenton he should consider a run for the Ridgewood Council. He would make a fine candidate to carry on the 3 Amigos legacy.

  14. 11:50

Don’t you worry, we will get them out of office. Even if someone tries to knock a candidate out of the running by calling his or her employer. They can try all they want, but every voter gets just one vote and the majority is sick of,them, sickened by them

  15. My vote is for the Vagianos, Halaby ticket and a player to be named at a later date. I hope they decide to run for Village Council.

  16. If Hallaby gets elected we will all learn a lot of new vocabulary words

  17. The three stooges motto is goody for us and FU.

  18. @12:03…. The MAJORITY is sick of them? 9 people named anonymous rip them on a blog… wow, that’s some tsunami… I think 11:50 hit the nail right on the head….

  19. We will see come election time Mr. Smith but suggest you find some new Council people to suck up to.

  20. Ridgewood is dying and being killed by these three! Paul did vote against Valley so i have to give him a point there. Why is Ridgewood dying faster than ever? The Valley Hospital is suing and will shove something down our throats soon enough. Traffic is already horrible downtown. The new phone parking meters are a mess, nice day glow green signs. The housing density being allowed is insane..way too high. Classes are bulging at 24 students in a classroom and we’re adding housing that won’t effect this any? Let’s spend more money on a not needed new garage for the town. When are these 3 going to stop? It seems too late now. Watch as they destroy Ridgewood. No need to change the Master Plan, was time to follow it and they couldn’t shame on them. Shame on Ridgewood for electing them. They may be out soon but it’s too late. The damage will be done. Last place we’ll all want to be in retirement will be Ridgewood. Hey Paul V., did you remove that illegal wall in front of your restaurant? I will never go eat there until that wall comes down…Do you make Gyros, who cares? The truth will set you free!

  21. Im telling you next is a monorail for Ridgewood.

  22. Yes, Paul Smith, the majority is sick of them. Their candidate was TROUNCED by Sedon and Knudsen. Everyone is anonymous when they vote. And all we anonymous voters spoke loudly and clearly.

  23. If the Greek wants a garage so badly, why isn’t this being set up as a public-private partnership (PPP) between business owners in the CBD and the Village? If business owners are involved in funding the construction, you can be damn sure they’ll be keeping a laser focus on cost overruns and potential graft/corruption. If it’s just the Village paying we all know what will happen. How can the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and VM not be pushing for a PPP if these parking spaces mean so much to business owners? If they try to push this through by themselves their support base vanishes immediately. Focus on cutting taxes, not leaving us with a white elephant that will increase everyone’s taxes. Pure arrogance.
