Ridgewood NJ, Parents and all adults who work with youth have an opportunity to talk with and walk with young people to connect faith and life. Youth today are making big decisions about their lives, who to be with, where they are going, and how they will prepare for their future.

Young people in our parishes need someone to accompany them; they need faith companions. Parents of adolescents deserve support and tools for making the faith connection
.
As Jesus walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we can accompany youth, listen to their questions, witness to faith, lead them to encounter Jesus, and empower them for mission. Join us for this workshop to share the skills we can use to help our young people build on their faith as they journey through life.

Lake Hopatcong Algae Getting Worse Again

Lake Hopatcong NJ, According to NJDEP testing conducted on August 21, 2019, Hopatcong State Park Algae bloom levels increased to 45,000 cells/mL compared to last week’s count at 18,374 cells/mL. Word Port Bay also saw an increase at 60,250 cells/mL compared to last week’s count at 17,250 cells/mL. Algae levels at East of Davis Cove Mid-Lake, S.E of State Park Beach, Prospect Point, Mouth of Wood Port Bay, Bertrand Island saw decreases in cyanobacteria levels, however they remained higher than NJ Heath Guidance Levels.

“Some areas at Lake Hopatcong that were opened last week are now closed. Algae levels spiked almost 4 times last week’s count at the State Park and at Wood Port Bay. This shows that conditions at Lake Hopatcong are backsliding.  Even though cyanobacteria counts have dropped in some areas, they are still above the health advisory levels, and can cause serious problems to people, their pets, and wildlife. The status of our lakes are still bad, and DEP has yet to make any progress on cleaning up and protecting our lakes and reservoirs. As we are getting towards the end of summer, our lakes still have serious problems,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club.

New Jersey Officials Continue to Drop the Ball on Newark’s Water Problems

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Newark NJ, after spending the better part of the last 2 years attacking everything that is “Trump”, New Jersey officials failed to take any action to fix Newark’s water problems . Several other New Jersey cities are currently facing a similar fate.

But in a joint statement issued Sunday afternoon, Gov. Phil Murphy and Mayor Ras Baraka said safe drinking water was critically important and called on the federal government to help.

The EPA tested and found high levels of lead with filters in two residences in Newark. The agency strongly encouraged the city of Newark to take immediate action. DEP Commissioner McCabe responded to EPA that, “EPA has not offered any support in providing bottled water to the city or in distributing that bottled water. Given the concerns EPA has here, we hope that EPA will offer assistance promptly.”
