Assemblyman Auth briefly entered the Republican contest for the 5th district seat but decided against a candidacy this year citing the need for Republican Party unity and the challenges of organizing a district wide campaign in less than 200 days.

Property taxes have been a major theme of the 5th District incumbent – Democrat Congressman Josh Gottheimer – who has proposed undoing the Trump tax cuts as a way to address New Jersey’s highest-in-the-nation property taxes. Pallotta has promised to “tackle the issues Gottheimer has only talked about.”

Brennan, who has advocated for sweeping policy change since coming forward in October 2018 about her own sexual assault by senior Phil Murphy campaign and administration staffer Al Alvarez, also said she would like to present to the Workgroup about her proposals at its next hearing in March.
