Under a White House plan, the Homeland Security Department will have far-reaching oversight over all civilian agency computer networks.

The proposal would codify much of the administration’s memo from July 2010 expanding DHS’s cyber responsibilities for civilian networks.

The White House, however, is taking those responsibilities further, according to a source familiar with the document. The administration drafted a legislative proposal to give DHS many, if not all, of the same authorities for the .gov networks that the Defense Department has for the .mil networks.

Washington (CNN) — Don’t like the way airport screeners are doing their job? You might not want to complain too much while standing in line.

Arrogant complaining about airport security is one indicator Transportation Security Administration officers consider when looking for possible criminals and terrorists, CNN has learned exclusively. And, when combined with other behavioral indicators, it could result in a traveler facing additional scrutiny.

CNN has obtained a list of roughly 70 “behavioral indicators” that TSA behavior detection officers use to identify potentially “high risk” passengers at the nation’s airports.

Christie Tells Diane Sawyer He Won’t Run for President in 2012, But Will His Friend Donald Trump?

New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie took another shot at his state’s teachers today by describing their union leaders as “political thugs.”

In an interview with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer, Christie offered no apology for his often tough talk that has left some teachers feeling bruised. He also talked about the presidential possibilities of both himself and his “friend” Donald Trump, and criticism by Jersey rock icon Bruce Springsteen.

While sitting in the school library at Lincoln School in Kearney, N.J., Christie told Sawyer that it’s essential for his state’s education system to change and he blames the teachers union for the harsh cuts his administration is making, that includes layoffs and larger classrooms.

“I believe the teachers in New Jersey in the main are wonderful public servants that care deeply. But their union, their union are a group of political thugs,” Christie said.

>Scott Garrett Challenges FAA Reauthorization Act of 2011

In 2007, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a change in flight patterns according to the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia Metropolitan Redesign Record of Decision, which affects flight patterns of airplanes traveling through LaGuardia, JFK, Newark and Philadelphia airports.

Last Friday, I offered an amendment to H.R. 658, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2011, requiring the FAA to examine alternative proposals for upcoming flight pattern changes of over the New York metropolitan area. Scheduled to be implemented by October 2011, these new flight patterns would cause a great deal of air traffic to be rerouted over many Bergen county and North Jersey towns.

Proponents of the airspace redesign have long maintained that it is necessary to redesign the airspace because a significant portion of the delays in our national airspace derive from the tri-state area. I couldn’t disagree more. The redesign of the airspace would have very little effect on delays but would adversely affect the lives of thousands of people.

My amendment would have prohibited the FAA from continuing with its implementation of the airspace redesign until it had conducted a study on alternatives to reduce delays at the four airports considered in the redesign, including studying whether reducing over scheduling and the use of smaller aircraft by air carriers would have a greater effect on reducing delays than the redesign.

New flight patterns over Northern New Jersey should not be implemented until a thorough study of alternatives is presented to Congress. My amendment would have ensured that every aspect of these new flight patterns was properly examined to protect 5th District towns from hasty decisions by the FAA.

Although my amendment did not pass the House, I will continue the good fight. It’s imperative that the FAA take seriously the concerns of those people on the ground that would be affected by their actions.
