Extra NJ TRANSIT trains, buses and light rail service planned for Super Bowl events during the week, including Game Day

NEWARK, NJ — With just 27 days to go until Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off in East Rutherford, the Christie Administration today outlined NJ TRANSIT’s service plans for transporting hundreds of thousands of fans and spectators to major events throughout Super Bowl week, including the first ever “Mass Transit Super Bowl” on February 2, 2014.

“Our goal at NJ TRANSIT for Super Bowl week is to ensure a world-class, seamless travel experience for visitors to the region who will be riding public transportation to the big game and other Super Bowl events,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director James Weinstein.  “We have put together a plan that offers expanded service and additional capacity to ensure that both Super Bowl guests and regular NJ TRANSIT customers can travel with ease during the entire week.”

NJ TRANSIT will add service to train, bus and light rail lines to accommodate customers traveling to events such as Media Day in downtown Newark and Super Bowl Boulevard in New York City.  On Super Bowl Sunday, NJ TRANSIT will operate full service on the Meadowlands Rail Line, which brings customers within steps of MetLife Stadium.

Service during Super Bowl week will operate as follows:

Rail Service During Super Bowl Week

From Wednesday, January 29 through Friday, January 31, to accommodate visitors traveling to Super Bowl Boulevard in New York City, NJ TRANSIT will operate additional late morning service on the Northeast Corridor and Morris & Essex Lines inbound to New York, as well as additional late evening service outbound from New York.
On Saturday, February 1, NJ TRANSIT will add trains throughout the day between Summit and New York on the Morris & Essex Lines, between New Brunswick and New York on the Northeast Corridor, and between South Amboy and New York on the North Jersey Coast Line.
Throughout Super Bowl week, NJ TRANSIT trains will operate with extra cars as needed to accommodate increased ridership demand.

Rail Service on Super Bowl Sunday

On Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, NJ TRANSIT will operate Meadowlands Rail Line service from Frank R. Lautenberg Rail Station at Secaucus Junction to MetLife Stadium starting at 1:40 p.m. and continuing up to game time, using 10-car multilevel trains to provide additional capacity.  NJ TRANSIT will also operate special shuttle trains between New York Penn Station, Newark Penn Station and Newark Liberty International Airport to Secaucus Junction.
Following the game, NJ TRANSIT will offer frequent service from MetLife Stadium to Secaucus Junction as well as extra rail service between New York Penn Station and Secaucus Junction.
Direct Meadowlands Rail Line service between Hoboken Terminal and MetLife Stadium will not operate on Super Bowl Sunday.  Hoboken customers traveling to and from MetLife Stadium must transfer at Secaucus Junction.
Customers seeking to board trains to MetLife Stadium from Secaucus Junction are subject to enhanced security screening.  In addition to purchase of round-trip rail fare to the Meadowlands, customers must present their game ticket in order to travel between Secaucus and MetLife Stadium on Super Bowl Sunday.  Customers boarding trains will also be required to adhere to the NFL’s Stadium Bag Policy.  For further details on the NFL’s policy, visit www.nfl.com/allclear.

Bus Service

From Wednesday, January 29 through Saturday, February 1, NJ TRANSIT bus routes will offer expanded service options at various hotels throughout northern New Jersey—guests should check at their hotel desks or visit njtransit.com for more detailed service information during that time.
From Wednesday, January 29 through Saturday, February 1, NJ TRANSIT buses will offer expanded service at North Bergen Park & Ride in North Bergen, Vince Lombardi Park & Ride in Ridgefield, and Mother’s Park & Ride in Wayne.
From Wednesday, January 29 through Saturday, February 1, NJ TRANSIT will offer expanded midday, afternoon peak and evening service on selected bus routes to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York. Some bus routes will have their PABT departure gates changed from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.  Visit njtransit.com for more detailed service information during that time.
From Wednesday, January 29 through Saturday, February 1, NJ TRANSIT will offer expanded midday, afternoon peak and evening service on selected bus routes to and from the Newark Liberty International Airport and downtown Newark/Newark Penn Station.
Some bus routes will be subject to service adjustments and detours during Super Bowl week, including on game day.  Details will be posted on njtransit.com during that time.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Service

From Monday, January 27 through Friday, January 31, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service will operate double-car trains until midnight, as well as two extra trips per hour between 2 p.m. and midnight.
On Saturday, February 1 and Sunday, February 2, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service will operate on all three branches (West Side Avenue-Tonnelle Avenue, 8th Street-Hoboken Terminal, and Hoboken Terminal-Tonnelle Avenue), with double-car trains operating until midnight.  Additional trains will operate between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. on these days.
Additional service may be operated to serve major events that are scheduled along the system.

Newark Light Rail Service

On Media Day, which will take place on Tuesday, January 28, at the Prudential Center in downtown Newark, Newark Light Rail will operate additional trains between Newark Penn Station and Newark Broad Street Station to provide service every 15 minutes in each direction through most of the day.

Access Link Paratransit Service

Access Link paratransit service will be accessible on Super Bowl Sunday, as well as throughout Super Bowl week. Advance reservation of one to seven days in advance are required for certified Access Link customers or certified, out-of-state ADA paratransit service customers.

Super Savings

SUPER PASS:  NJ TRANSIT is offering a commemorative, unlimited ride SUPER PASS to speed travel for customers and offer the flexibility to utilize the entire NJ TRANSIT system throughout Super Bowl Week.  SUPER PASS is now available to the general public via online orders only at njtransit.com/superbowl through January 20.
Family Super Saver Fare:  NJ TRANSIT is offering a special extension of the Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult.  The Family Super Saver Fare will be in effect all through Super Bowl week.

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee will sponsor its annual celebration on Friday, July 4, 2014.

The purpose of the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is to celebrate the USA and its history and to honor American Patriots of all times. For 2014, we would like to focus on our national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. We will celebrate the people and events
involved with creating this important American song.

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration began in 1910 when the local papers, the civic section of the Woman’s Club and the Ridgewood Fire Department joined forces to create a “safe and sane” holiday with an emphasis on Patriotism. It has grown into one
of the largest celebrations in the New York City area.

TENAFLY, N.J. (PIX11) – The Alvator family, joined by some neighbors, set out to recreate a tradition they themselves had grown up with.

After they say they checked with the local fire and police departments and were given the green light, 300 decorative luminaries were lined along their street on Joyce Road on Christmas Eve.

“Our neighbors, from all different backgrounds, sent their children out to help fill the bags and light the candles early in the evening on Christmas Eve. We loved it. We thought it was a great sense of community,” said Scott Semone.

There are all sorts of time bombs embedded within Obamacare.

Will we force doctors to treat the millions of new Medicaid patients who are signing up for services that can be only partially reimbursed? How exactly will the IRS collect penalties from millions of off-the-books youth who choose not to buy coverage?

Of the newly insured who chose not to buy health insurance in the past, how many will follow through on their initial signups with steady monthly premium payments? If many don’t, how will we collect what they owe? Will all those who lost their coverage have enough money to buy the costlier Obamacare replacement plan?

Among these unanswered questions, the most disturbing pertain to the demand that millions of so-called Millennials must purchase health insurance — estimated at about $1,700 a year — that they will hardly use. Their premiums supposedly will subsidize older, in-need Americans who cannot pay the full costs of coverage that they will draw on frequently.

We forget that young people are already targeted for a number of government redistribution plans. Of America’s age cohorts, the under-30 bunch is the least likely to be employed, and the most likely to work at low-wage or part-time jobs.

Millennials already pay high payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare coverage for the elderly. Yet most economists predict that both programs will soon prove insolvent and will not be able to extend the present level of benefits to young contributors when they retire.

We are currently in the greatest economic slowdown since the Great Depression. The now normal 7 percent unemployment hits the young especially hard. Their jobless rate typically ranges from two to three times higher than the national average. Requiring employers to provide Obamacare coverage will spike unemployment and, again, do the most harm to those who are just entering the workforce.

Documents show 19 vulnerabilities left unaddressed before Oct. 1

Documents provided to the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform reveal that the Obama administration knew of security vulnerabilities within Healthcare.gov prior to Oct. 1, but launched the website anyway.

Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) said Health and Human Services (HHS) officials showed a “disturbing lack of judgment” by going ahead with the site’s launch and putting Americans’ personal information at risk.

Results of a security assessment conducted by a contractor on the site, MITRE Corporation, found that 19 security vulnerabilities remained unaddressed on Oct. 1.

Eleven of the 19 vulnerabilities “significantly impact the confidentiality, integrity and/or availability of the system data,” MITRE said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — After more than 40 years of study, the federal government said Monday it has no evidence that the anti-bacterial chemicals used in countless common soaps and washes help prevent the spread of germs, and it is reviewing research suggesting they may pose health risks.

Regulators at the Food and Drug Administration said they are revisiting the safety of chemicals such as triclosan in light of recent studies that suggest the substances can interfere with hormone levels and spur the growth of drug-resistant bacteria.

The government’s preliminary ruling lends new support to outside researchers who have long argued that the chemicals are, at best, ineffective and at worst, a threat to public health.

“The FDA is finally making a judgment call here and asking industry to show us that these products are better than soap and water, and the data don’t substantiate that,” said Stuart Levy of Tufts University School of Medicine.

Under a proposed rule released Monday, the agency will require manufacturers to prove that anti-bacterial soaps and body washes are safe and more effective than plain soap and water. Products that are not shown to be safe and effective by late 2016 would have to be reformulated, relabeled or removed from the market.

Garrett Grills Secretary Lew About Transparency and IRS Targeting

I have been quite disturbed at this administration’s clear pattern of stonewalling anyone who dares shine the light of day into the inner workings of the Obama administration.  From the terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, to Attorney General Eric Holder’s refusal to hand over key documents for the Fast and Furious investigation, to the lack of the administration’s cooperation with Congress in providing details regarding ObamaCare’s failed implementation, requests for information have either been met with silence or outright refusal by this administration.    

Unfortunately, this pattern has continued at the Department of Treasury under Jack Lew’s leadership.  

Today, Secretary Jack Lew testified before the House Financial Services Committee, and I finally had a chance to question him about his unwillingness to respond to three simple questions I asked back in June.  I hope you will take a few moments to watch our exchange.

RIDGEWOOD — Village officials are using a different approach during the annual budget process this year — crafting a spending plan with help from their Financial Advisory Committee.

The panel was formalized four months ago. Seven residents, all with backgrounds in business, meet monthly to provide insights and recommendations to the council on spending matters.

The numbers-crunchers recently attended a council meeting to suggest a “more streamlined” budget process for the coming months.

The Financial Advisory Committee has already met with the interim village manager as well as the chief finance officer. The group is proposing wholesale changes in the budget process. For example, it wants Ridgewood’s operating and capital budgets to be considered jointly.

“The capital and operating budget processes are separate and succinct,” Roberta Sonenfeld, vice chairwoman of the committee, told the council at a recent meeting.

“That struck us,” Sonenfeld said. “Usually those things are done hand-in-hand. The immediate recommendation here was to combine those two processes in the 2014 budget.”

Sonenfeld said this could halve the time the budget process takes.

Special 1st Birthday Celebrations Held at The Valley Hospital

November 11, 2013 — It can be very distressing to be placed on hospitalized bed rest during pregnancy.  Separation from family and loved ones, and concerns about the unborn baby increase anxiety, and loneliness and boredom can easily set in.

A year ago – while each was awaiting the birth of their first child – expectant moms Michele Holiday, from Midland Park; MaryKate McBrayer, from Westwood; and Anna Locke, from Hillsdale; bonded over their shared hospitalizations at The Valley Hospital.  Their friendship was further strengthened during their shared time together while their babies received care in Valley’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Earlier this month the three moms and their babies returned to Valley for a special shared celebration of their babies’ first birthdays.

Village of Ridgewood : In Celebration of Veteran’s

List of Programs in November

A reminder, Saturday, November 9th at the Ridgewood Public Library at 2 pm. Their is a joint presentation Called “Escape from Behind Enemy Lines”. The Shelburn Line was a WW11 escape network operating in occupied France which returned 136 allied servicemen to England. Rick Feingold recounts the story of how his father Lt, Louis Feingold escaped Nazi capture.. The presentation begins at 2 pm.

Monday, November 11th the American Legion Post 53 will conduct the Veterans Day service starting at 11 am. at Ridgewoods Veterans Field located at Linwood and Maple Aves by the flagpole. Please join us.

Saturday, November 16th at 9 am. the American Legion will recover the American flags placed at veterans gravesites in May. The community is invited to help us. The more hands the easier the task. Bring your children and grandchildren. The event will take place rain or shine at Valleau cemetery.

Veterans Day Ceremony – November 11

Veterans day is Monday, November 11th. American Legion Post 53, Ridgewood is inviting the whole community to attend our service to be held at Veterans Field at 11 am. The ceremony will take place at the flagpole located at Maple and Linwood Ave. Please join us as we thank all veterans but especially Korean War era military.
