Ridgewood’s 102nd annual Fourth of July Celebration: Let’s Make it a Safe Celebration
Ridgewood’s 102nd annual Fourth of July Celebration will take place on Wednesday,July 4, 2012. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Born in New Jersey.”
Ridgewood’s celebration was founded in 1910 as a “safe and sane” way to celebrate Independence Day. Today, as our celebration continues, the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee along with the Ridgewood Police Department, Ridgewood Fire Department and Ridgewood Emergency Services have some pointers to keep the spirit of safety that began so long ago.
Some things to consider when watching the fabulous Parade:
• Wear sun block
• Drink plenty of water
• Consider ear plugs (some of those sirens are very loud!)
• Please keep the roadways clear.
− The streets are closed to traffic, but open to parade vehicles – some of
which are very large and have poor visibility, especially turning corners.
And, while waiting for the equally fabulous Fireworks display:
• Drink plenty of water
• Consider ear plugs (some of the ‘booms’ are very loud!)
• On Veterans Field, please keep the coned-off ‘aisles’ clear for emergency access
• On Maple Avenue, please no seating – Police, Fire and EMS require open
access from the field to the main streets for emergency vehicles.
At both events, please note that there are Police Officers and EMS Personnel located throughout the areas to assist you with any and all safety issues or concerns.
While the celebration is fun – we all keep safety as our number one priority. We hope you can join us with this priority in order to keep the “safe and sane” celebration continuing for years to come.
The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is organized by the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration, Inc., an all-volunteer community group. All aspects of the Celebration including fireworks, bands, evening performers, insurance, police and fire personnel, are funded by voluntary participation from businesses and individuals as well as the sale of tickets to our fireworks show. The Committee is not part of the Village of Ridgewood government and receives no direct funding from the Village.

In Arizona dissent, Scalia blasts Obama’s deportation stay, immigration policies

In a stinging, 22-page dissent to Monday’s decision striking down most of Arizona’s tough anti-illegal immigration law, Justice Antonin Scalia criticized President Barack Obama’s announcement earlier this month that he would stay the deportation of young illegal immigrants and suggested that the federal government does not want to enforce its immigration laws.
“The president said at a news conference that the new program is ‘the right thing to do’ in light of Congress’s failure to pass the administration’s proposed revision of the Immigration Act,” Scalia, a Reagan appointee, wrote in his dissent. “Perhaps it is, though Arizona may not think so. But to say, as the Court does, that Arizona contradicts federal law by enforcing applications of the Immigration Act that the President declines to enforce boggles the mind.”
Registration for YWCA Bergen County Summer Classes Now Open

New summer classes include one-week concentrated swim lessons (June 18th to 22nd) for children and adults and Aqua Adventures, a two-week class for kids aged five to 10 that combines swim lessons and structured free play. Ridgewood NJ , The Office of Legislative Services released its May Revenue Snapshot on Friday, which reiterates that revenues for the current fiscal year are likely to come in well below even revised administration projections.
Lingering economic uncertainty, has led tax collections in the state to falll short of the Christie administration’s estimates for the third straight month, according to figures released Friday by the Treasury Department.The state taxx collections brought in a whopping $2.02 billion in May yet it was still short $36.4 million from Treasury Department estimates that had recently been revised downward only three weeks ago.
According to the Office of Legislative Services “Through the end of May, most major tax revenues have grown at rates below those necessary to achieve the Executive’s revised year end targets,” the report said. “To meet those targets, a significant acceleration of growth rates for a number of taxes will be required in the remaining weeks of the fiscal year.”
The report said Gross Income Tax receipts must grow at lest 4.3 percent in the remaining two weeks of the fiscal year in order to hit revised projections. While sales tax receipts are up 2.6 percent over the same period last year, May receipts are off 2.7 percent. To reach the projected 3.6 percent growth, collections must grow 8.3 percent in the remaining weeks of the fiscal year, or more than three times the current year to date growth rate.
Corporate Business Tax collections are up 1.8% so far this fiscal year. The administration did not revise its 2012 estimate, which represents 3.9% growth for the entire fiscal year. The CBT will have to grow by about 15% in June to reach the year end target.
While tax revenues remain significant they are not enough to cover current budget expenses and Christie like his big spending predators has resorted to the strategy of robbing Paul to pay Peter pulling moneys earmarked for certain government liabilities to cover current operating expenses.
New Jersey tax payers are still one of the most overtaxed residents in the USA ,while New Jersey still boasts one of the most over manned ,expensive and inefficient government bureaucracy’s in the US.
Rated near the bottom in business climate for years perhaps it is time to seriously look at streamlining regulations and eliminating governmental overlap.
The National Association of State Budget Officers report released last Wednesday showed Christie has proposed the largest increase in spending among the 50 states in 2013. Christie has called for a 7.2 percent spending increase for the 2013 fiscal year, while the average spending increase recommendation is 2.2 percent.
There are huge redundancy’s at the state ,county and local level and simply to many layers of bureaucracy and taxes a far to high for the state to be competitive . perhaps its time to cut spending and look to shrink the scope of government intervention in the economy .
Five Things the Administration Forgot to Tell Women About Obamacare
Last week, the Obama Administration hosted a health care town hall that was intended to focus on Obamacare’s impact on women’s health.
The discussion was heavy on emotion and light on the details of Obamacare’s provisions. The Administration’s generic talking points may or may not resonate with American women, but surely the real impact of Obamacare will—and in ways that are not favorable to the Administration.
Here’s a summary of the adverse effects that some specific provisions will have on the women the Administration claims to be helping:
Decreased Choice. Obamacare mandates that insurers cover preventive services recommended by the United State Preventive Services Task Force with no cost-sharing. This has quickly turned the task force’s recommendations for doctors and patients into requirements on insurers and employers that could lead them to cover only services that are required of them.
Higher Premiums. Obamacare’s “free” preventive services will still be paid for by the consumer. Insurers and employers are not going to absorb those costs; they will simply pass them on to consumers through higher premiums.
Blatantly Unjust Premiums. Obamacare’s new age rating system causes insurers to charge unnaturally low premiums for older adults and higher premiums for younger adults. Actuaries estimate that this will increase premiums for ages 18–24 by 45 percent and ages 25–29 by 35 percent, regardless of gender.
Increased Dependence on Government and its Bureaucrats. Obamacare expands the role of government and gives extensive authority to the Secretary of HHS. As depicted in “The Life of Julia,” the Obama campaign envisions cradle-to-grave dependence on government for American women. Under Obamacare, more than half of all Americans will be dependent on the federal government for health care by 2020.
Violation of Religious Liberty. At the town hall, when discussing the women-specific preventive care mandate that requires insurers to cover contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs without cost-sharing, the Administration failed to mention that while it exempts churches from this mandate, it does not waive religious hospitals, schools, or charities that find such products morally objectionable on religious grounds. That violates the First Amendment right to freedom of religion for all Americans—regardless of gender or faith.

Florida to sue DHS in voter registration battle

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he will sue the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to move forward with his controversial attempt to purge the voter-rolls in his state of ineligible voters.
“I have a job to do to defend the right of legitimate voters,” Scott told Fox News on Monday. “We’ve been asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s database, SAVE, for months, and they haven’t given it to us. So this afternoon, we will be filing a lawsuit, the secretary of State of Florida, against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database. We want to have fair, honest elections in our state and we have been put in a position that we have to sue the federal government to get this information.”

For many years the cost of our tickets remained the same while our costs increased. In recent years we have had to increase our ticket prices. It was a decision that the Committee did reluctantly in the face of rising costs. To keep the ticket prices as reasonable as possible for attendees, while covering costs, pre-sales of tickets are being made available through a wide range of local businesses.

Handicap parking for the Parade is available on Dayton Street behind Van Neste Park.
Very limited Handicap parking for the Evening Entertainment is available at the parking lot to the east of Veterans Field. Approach Veterans Field on Linwood Avenue from the east. Turn left onto Northern Parkway. Turn right into the parking lot. There are just a few spaces available on a first-come, first-serve basis. A police officer will be posted there to direct you. Those who park in the handicap spaces will not have access to their cars during the fireworks due to the location of the fireworks drop zone.
The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration began in 1910 when the local papers, the civic section of the Woman’s Club and the Ridgewood Fire Department joined forces to create a “safe and sane” holiday with an emphasis on Patriotism. It has grown into one of the largest celebrations in the New York City area and has been featured on CNN and Good Morning America as well as local New York stations. The celebration was once again named Best Parade and Fireworks by the readers of 201 Magazine.

The Christie Administration projects revenue shortfall of $676 million
The administration is projecting a revenue shortfall of $676 million through Fiscal Year 2013, a little over half the revenue miss of $1.3 billion predicted earlier today by the Office of Legislative Services.
According to an administration source with knowledge of the revenue projections, Treasurer Andrew Sidamon Eristoff will present plans to close the gap before the Assembly Budget Committee Wednesday.

Obama administration urges freer access to cellphone records
(Reuters) – The U.S. Congress should pass a law to give investigators freer access to certain cellphone records, an Obama administration official said on Thursday, in remarks that raised concern among advocates of civil liberties and privacy.
Jason Weinstein, a deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s criminal division, argued that requirements for warrants at early stages of investigations would “cripple” prosecutors and law enforcement.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this year that a warrant was needed to put a GPS satellite tracking device on a suspect’s vehicle, prompting questions about other instances where probable-cause warrants should be needed to obtain information in the rapidly changing world of mobile devices.
