Hasbrouck Heights NJ, A dangerous domestic standoff in Hasbrouck Heights ended in an arrest this week after a local woman allegedly ignited a fire inside a residence and challenged responding officers to open fire.
Chaos Erupts in Hasbrouck Heights
On Friday, April 10, officers from the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department were dispatched to a local home following reports of an emotionally disturbed person. According to Captain John Behr, the situation escalated quickly. Authorities were informed that 26-year-old Ashley Rios had allegedly set a fire inside the house while wielding a knife and threatening family members.
A Tense Confrontation
Detectives Marino and Cambridge were the first to arrive on the scene. Upon their arrival, Rios reportedly emerged from the home and began shouting “shoot me” at the officers.
Despite the high-tension atmosphere, the situation was de-escalated successfully. Police confirmed that Rios eventually followed verbal commands and was taken into custody without further incident. Once inside the home, investigators recovered a 9-inch Smith & Wesson knife and verified that the fire had been extinguished prior to their arrival.

After an initial evaluation at a local medical facility, Rios was transferred to the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. According to police records, she was remanded to the Bergen County Jail on April 15.
The Hasbrouck Heights Police were assisted on the scene by Officer Kyle Delahanty and units from the Wood-Ridge and Lodi police departments.
