“Reckless and Dangerous”: John DiMaio Slams Governor Sherrill’s Federal Agent Reporting Tool

Trenton NJ, a heated political battle has erupted in Trenton following the launch of a new state-run online portal. Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio issued a scathing rebuke of Governor Mikie Sherrill on Wednesday, after her administration introduced a platform encouraging New Jersey residents to upload photos and locations of federal immigration agents.

DiMaio, representing Warren County, characterized the move not as a tool for transparency, but as a direct assault on law enforcement.

“State-Sponsored Intimidation”

In a formal statement, DiMaio did not mince words regarding the potential consequences of the new reporting system.

“This is state-sponsored intimidation of federal law enforcement, plain and simple,” DiMaio said. “It’s reckless. And it’s dangerous.”

The Assembly Leader warned that by inviting the public to document federal activity in real-time, the state is effectively encouraging harassment and creating a high-risk environment for officers. He argued that the portal invites “stalking” and “confrontation” rather than serving any legitimate legal purpose.

The Safety Conflict: Crimes vs. Activism

A central point of DiMaio’s criticism involves the type of individuals being targeted by federal immigration enforcement. He noted that federal authorities in New Jersey frequently handle cases involving:

  • Sexual assault convictions

  • Crimes against children

  • Violent offenses

According to DiMaio, the Governor’s decision to side with activists over enforcement officers weakens public safety. “Instead of supporting those efforts, the governor is siding with activists who want to shame and obstruct officers,” he stated.

A Growing Political Divide in New Jersey

This latest clash highlights the deepening rift between the Sherrill administration and Republican leadership over New Jersey’s status as a “sanctuary” state. DiMaio contends that this portal is part of a broader pattern of policies designed to obstruct federal authorities and embolden criminal elements within the state.

As the temperature rises in the state house, the question remains: will the portal remain a permanent fixture of New Jersey’s digital infrastructure, or will legal challenges force a shutdown?
