Explore the Ridgewood Schoolhouse Museum
Nestled inside a historic one-room schoolhouse built in 1872, the Schoolhouse Museum is a window into Ridgewood’s rich past. Originally known as District School No. 45, the building served students until 1905. Today, it’s home to fascinating exhibits that highlight life in the Saddle River Valley during the 18th and 19th centuries—when the area was primarily settled by the Dutch.
The museum, carefully curated by the Ridgewood Historical Society, showcases authentic artifacts that bring history to life. Whether you’re a history buff, an educator, or a family looking for an enriching weekend activity, this exhibit promises a fun and educational journey through America’s evolving childhood experiences.

Scary Lady was a BoE trustee even back then.
She still is…
And look at the sunset on top of the stall, can you imagine putting that on a kid today in school? The teacher would be fired, the school system and board of education will be brought up upon charges you would see a lawsuit that’s just wonderful how a student may make a mistake with something you put them on the with the gun cap on in the corner and everyone laughing at you, wonderful teaching, instead, how about the whole class get involved and help if fellow student, not backstab them and talk bad about him or her. Like we’re dealing with certain places of work act like this. It’s amazing how schools would condone these actions, I’m glad I had a father that would all put up a can of whip ass on these people, and that’s how it should be not be little and talk down to students. Help them out teach them. I’m glad my dad taught me how to kick ass against bullies. And I do the same thing with my kids.
