Stolen African Gray Parrot Safely Returned to Saddle Brook Shop

Saddle Brook NJ, a rare African gray parrot stolen from Birds by Joe in Saddle Brook, NJ, has been safely recovered, police announced Monday. The bird, valued at $7,000, was taken on January 23 but has now been returned to its rightful owner.

Suspect Identified and Charged

Onyx Calderon, 24, of Paterson, has been charged with theft in connection with the incident.

According to Saddle Brook police, Calderon entered the shop and asked to see an African gray parrot. When the store owner placed the bird in a cage, Calderon allegedly grabbed the cage and fled through the parking lot in an unknown direction.

How Police Recovered the Stolen Parrot

Detectives analyzed surveillance footage and released images of the suspect on social media, seeking public assistance. Several leads emerged, allowing investigators to identify Calderon as the suspect.

Authorities eventually tracked the stolen parrot to Paterson, where they recovered it and safely returned it to Birds by Joe.
