Strike Up the Band!

Ridgewood NJ, the Teacher Spotlight from this week’s RHS Weekly View featured  Mr. Luckenbill is in his 10th year of teaching at RHS, where he teaches Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Music Production. He also runs the RHS Recording Studio and is the Director of the RHS Brass Ensemble and RHS Marching Band. Mr. Luckenbill received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Michigan State University in the spring of 2011, and his Master of Music in Music Education from Kent State University in the spring of 2016. In 2016, Mr. Luckenbill was named a Positive Coaching Alliance “Double Goal Coach Award” winner (1 of only 50 in the United States) for his work with the marching band. The award is given to coaches who strive to win while also teaching life lessons through their activity.

The RHS Marching Band has been running with a hybrid model of their own, participating in a combination of in-person rehearsals, Zoom music/visual rehearsals, Zoom social/team-building events, and completing assignments through Google Classroom. They will be competing in four fully VIRTUAL competitions this season. Their performances will be streamed on www.flomarching.com each competition weekend, ending with v-USBands National Championships on November 7.
