Student Stands Trial For Allegedly Calling Classmate ‘Horse’ and ‘Fat’
By Evan Bleier, Mon, April 29, 2013

New Jersey’s strict anti-bullying laws now mean that the state must hold trials when children call each other names in the schoolyard. After allegedly calling a female classmate “horse,” “fat,” and “fat ass,” an eighth-grader from Ridgewood, N.J., found himself in the courtroom.

The boy has admitted to calling the other student “horse” but denies using the other offensive terms. “I never made any remarks other than horse,” he said while giving testimony. “I did not have any intent.”

His family is concerned that what they perceive as a minor incident will result in the boy having a bullying charge on his permanent record. In the hopes of having the charge stricken from his record, they insisted that the case go to trial, the Daily Caller reported.

  1. This is total stupidity. These laws passed by liberal do gooders do not accomplish any thing more than clog the court system for something children have done for hundreds of years.

  2. I read the headline and thought it was a mock trial in the classroom that would help the kids learn about the legal system. This is real? Holy shit.

I would love to see the look on the public defender’s face as he / she read that docket. “I went to law school for THIS???” Too funny.

The real question though, is, was she fat?

  3. The point here is that the arrogant parents turned this into a court case because little Johnny can do no wrong. A bullying incident does not consitute a criminal “record” so it goes no further than the schools. Teach the little jerk some compassion and how to deal with people or he’ll grow up to be a full blown sociopath.

    1. Could the defendent have apologized and taken an online class on “how not to be a jerk”? This probably went to court because they could not settle. Sounds like the victim and defendent (and parents) have dug in on this one.

Teach your child to apologize when he is wrong. It builds character.

  4. #3 a full blown sociopath, you must be kidding.

  5. Adults are not civil to each other and somehow we expect children to be.

  6. This isn’t bullying…

…its just one concerned student’s way of implementing Michele Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity.

Maybe this guy should get a presidential pardon.

  7. “The boy has admitted to calling the other student “horse” but denies using the other offensive terms. “

    1. Since when is “horse” an offensive TERM?

    2. Is the ASPCA aware of this?
This kid might be in even more trouble.

  8. serious free speech issues
