Teaneck NJ, a late-night burglary at a Teaneck stationery store led to the arrest of a local man, Robert Hamway, 59, who now faces multiple charges after allegedly smashing his way into the business and stealing nearly $1,000 worth of cigarettes.
Break-In at Rocklin’s Stationery Store on Cedar Lane
Teaneck Police responded to a report of a burglary on May 7 at Rocklin’s Stationery Store, located at 458 Cedar Lane. Upon arrival, officers found that the glass front door had been shattered and the store had been entered shortly after 1 a.m.
The thief reportedly took cash from the register and made off with nine cartons of cigarettes, valued at $990.
Investigation Leads to Local Suspect
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Identification processed the scene, collecting forensic evidence. With assistance from nearby surveillance footage, Teaneck Police detectives identified Robert Hamway, who lives on Alma Avenue, just around the corner from the store, as the primary suspect.
Charges Filed & Arrest Made
On May 15, Hamway was arrested and charged with the following:

Third-degree burglary

Third-degree theft

Fourth-degree criminal mischief

Possession of burglary tools (disorderly persons offense)
He was transported to the Bergen County Rehabilitation and Correctional Facility following his arrest.
Search of Suspect’s Home Reveals Additional Evidence
Two days after his arrest, police obtained and executed a search warrant at Hamway’s residence. According to authorities, more evidence connected to the crime was recovered during the search.
