Soft-drink makers, restaurateurs and other businesses have sued the New York City to block the city’s move to end the sale of super-sized, sugary drinks .

The American Beverage Association and others sued the city Friday. City officials had no immediate response.

Continuing the move to greater and greater regulation of personal behavior the New York City Board of Health approved the regulation last month that would stop restaurants, cafeterias and concession stands from selling soda and other high-calorie drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces.

The rule is set to take effect in March. While Mayor Michael Bloomberg calls it a reasonable, promising way to curb obesity. Critics claim Bloomberg should mind his own business, but out of peoples lives and get to work on the cities staggeringly high unemployment .Others also criticize the selective of the law stating there is no ban on large Starbucks sugary drinks , yet Slurpee’s from 7-11 were singled out.

The lawsuit says the unelected health board shouldn’t be telling people how much soda to drink. The suit also says the rule “burdens consumers and unfairly harms small businesses.”
