Ridgewood NJ, it’s been two years since the Covid-19 pandemic sent everyone home from work, and for many workers 2022 will begin and end in the same way: working from home Infront of a screen .
Most big tech companies and Wall Street bankers pushed back their return-to-office dates multiple times this year, most recently in response to the omicron variant. Earlier this month, Alphabet Inc.’s Google told employees it would wait until the new year to assess when it will require them to return to campus. Later in the month, Apple Inc. also postponed its deadline for employees to return to the office to a “date yet to be determined.” And Lyft Inc. said its employees won’t have to come back to the office for all of 2022.
All the canceled return-to-office targets have the cumulative effect of making each new deadline seem less credible. After all, the major tech companies seem to be doing just fine with remote work. Many newly hired staffers have never seen the inside of their company’s offices. If the virus does recede next year, it will still be difficult to tell employees who have logged on from home for years that it suddenly no longer works.
The next step for employers and workers will be a reimagining of our new remote reality. Some employees, in denial about the permanence of their work-from-home set-up, will finally buy a real desk and an ergonomic chair. Personally, I am suffering the consequences of my failure to properly outfit my home office. My appointment with a carpal tunnel specialist is next week.
It seems we have all become Digital nomads . Digital nomads are professionals who decide to forgo the conventional understanding of nine to five jobs, pack up their laptop, and move to a beach in Thailand, for example. The trend is soaring among Millennials and Gen Z, who happen to be the most technologically-advanced generations and now the covid pandemic has proved it can work for corporate 9-5ers as well.
More and more companies are opting to save the rent money and go decentralized. The power of the Internet and various connection tools such as Slack, Zoom, and Asana that allow an instant connection, and those who work on decentralized companies no longer have to live within the same geographical area or even see each other.

This could mean the end of the commuter model as remote work becomes more and more generally accepted and perhaps a boom to local downtowns where remote workers could gather to socialize and relax .
While we have yet to fully understand the impact of remote work on one’s ability to climb the corporate ladder, we do know it’s past time to upgrade our home workspace .
too bad all the trees got cut down.
can we make it a park now and restore it
You mean bring back the porto-potty ?
The Great Resignation….makes me wonder if I’m ready to pack it in and become a dog walker or something like that.
That’s not a fully accurate observation. Companies still need to integrate new and especially young employees. Meanwhile experienced employees need to meet one another from time to time to keep network fresh.
Basically, that means that young ppl still need to be in the office 2-3 times a week. Whole older – once a week. Perfect for Ridgewood. Far enough from city mess, but close enough for once /week adventure.
Sorry…
Not far enough from NJ let alone Ridgewood.
I moved out of state 2 years ago and have an excellent commute for the once a week. I have a beautiful home in a picturesque community and my taxes are half of what I paid in Ridgewood and I still make the NY dime.
Stop fooling yourselves.
Ridgewood blows.
Living the dream!
It’s amazing that 90% of people are working from home. It’s gonna take a long time for everyone to go back.
Wake up!
We’re not going back!
Wake up, why do you think you see all these shared office space is popping up in Ridgewood? The albatross of a parking garage will continue to lose money.. don’t feel sorry for all those Westsiders bragging about obtaining multiple parking spots in the lottery hoping to rent them out and make a mint! 😂. Jokes on you suckers!
