  5. I was losing confidence in Fishbein due to the proposal of a performing arts center that we can’t afford, however during the pandemic he showed strong leadership. He stood up to the REA and made it possible for hybrid learning when it was clear that the REA was pushing for remote. I have a lot of newfound respect for him for not caving to the union, which is very strong in NJ. I will be disappointed if he steps down. The new members of the board will challenge the old ways, but that is how we ensure we are making the best decisions for our district.

  6. Hmmm, where would Fishbein go if he left? What employers are lining up to hire this genius that took “tradition of excellence” to a different level.

  7. Not surprised, I would have a very difficult time working with the two new board members also.
It’s a non stop attack on the administration during a historically stressful time to be a school administrator. The board members should be supporting the administration at this time, not attacking and making the job even more difficult. Not only are they hurting our administration but they are ultimately hurting the education of our children.

Agree – He has provided terrific leadership in a very difficult time.
It’s going to be very hard to find a qualified replacement with the current board and the pandemic.

If you don’t understand or agree with my statements, watch a BOE meeting.

  8. Hopefully we can get a leader focused on good old fashioned core curriculum and conservative values. The school has been swept too far into a realm of experimentation and social justice… without planning where exactly such path leads.

  9. amamom, I have watched BOE meetings. The two board members are asking questions about Enron style accounting, questions on switching vendors after agendas are published, questions about not following county superintendent’s directions on reopening plan, questions about RFP taking 12-16 weeks for hiring a legal council and architect.
The board members who are NOT asking those questions are the problem, not the newly elected ones who ARE representing the tax paying citizens by asking these right questions.

  10. Dr. Fishbein has been such an asset to Ridgewood, it would be such a loss if he left. The new board seems to be going out of its way to degrade the quality of our schools. But what else did we expect? We didn’t vote in a board that was interested in building a stronger school system, we voted in a board only interested in slashing taxes, no matter the consequences. I’m glad that I graduated under Dr. Fishbein, God knows the future of the RPS will be bleak without his leadership and that of a strong BOE. He’s positioned to get plenty of great job offers from communities who value schools.

  11. Dr. Fishbein is not a pro active man. So many things of importance have been left on the back burner. If you are unfortunate enough to have a problem, Fishbein is virtually useless. If he is leaving because of two of our new board members, it is because he hates questions and/or interference regarding administrative activities. I think accounting practices are suspect. He gets paid a lot of money to ignore the public.

  12. Good job on the part of our 2 newest Board members. Questions must be asked, answers must be provided. Too bad if Dr. Fishbein doesn’t like “interference.” That’s why the voters elected Mr. Dani and Ms. Kwak.

  13. Give it a rest all of you Fishbein supporters. He works for the Board, they don’t work for him. Taxpayers call the shots, not the BOE staff.

  18. The taxpayers are in charge, and the taxpayers elected those who we wanted to represent us. There should be no further questions. If he’s out because he didn’t like who was elected, be gone.

Take away some spending and the crowd calls it slashing.
That’s how you end up with that size budget.

  27. Reminds me of the sign in the store-“you break it, you bought it”. Let’s see how are new board members are at running a school board in the midst of a pandemic without a superintendent or a CFO.

  28. If this little Fish leaves on his own I will finally have some respect for him. Just look at school rankings from different sources over the years that he has been “leading”. But I doubt he has the guts. This job is too rewarding to just walk away from.

  30. Experienced. Knowledgeable. Wise. Balanced. Decisive. You cant find a dozen of those for any price. Failing to recognize the value of what we have in a leader who serves the entire school ommunity will ensure that we dont have it going forward. Thanks, Dr. Fishbein.

  31. Experienced. Knowledgeable. Wise. Balanced. Decisive. Strong. Serves the whole school community, not factions. You can’t find a dozen of that, no matter how much is paid. Agree that the board of ed reflects what the village voted for. But if the value of this leadership can’t be recognized, then it won’t be found going forward. Anyone who remembers, knows there was no steady hand on the rudder for years before Dr Fishbein came in. It’s a mistake to go back to that.

  32. I don’t think ANON has had many dealings with Dr. Fishbein. He does what he wants and would be quite content if citizens never came to the mic and his BOE rubber stamped his every word . Also, I think there are many who could fill his shoes including personnel currently in our district. No need to pay for a far reaching search. He is an administrator not a rocket scientist.

  33. anyone going to report on it now that he has resigned? Bueller?

  34. Quitting (running away) in the face of questions from his boss (BOE) just proves to me what I always knew – that Fishbein is a weak and useless man.

The only downside is that we will likely hire an even more useless Superintendent….

  35. RHS Alum above sounds just like one of his children extolling his virtues.

  36. “no study hand on the rudder before fishbein came in?? I guess you weren’t around for RHS Principal Jack Lorenz. Jack had RHS and the straight and narrow despite the BoE and Superintendent. God rest his soul.

  37. They should be a few more top officials resigning throughout the village of Ridgewood Set up your bullshit. We are. Do you think we are stupid. We know what your people are doing. Just stop we have eyeballs on you.
