Ridgewood NJ, the League of Women Voters Ridgewood Village Council Candidates’ Night went about as expected , the questions crafted were clearly meant to promote the agenda driven pet projects and special interests of Winograd and Weitz and their sponsors , no surprise there . Weitz showed his total lack of knowledge of the village by repeating well crafted pre written answers that often had nothing to do with the questions and making bold pronouncements to appease his handlers . Weitz came off having no clue and no experience and at one point actually promoted the idea that people who play pickleball are too feeble to make the Village Council meetings person?

Van Goor who has a very impressive track record (Ridgewood Fire Chief since 2010) as a public servant and is very involved with community activities , is indeed a terrible public speaker , once again no surprise there .
Winograd came off whining for the downtrodden .According to Winograd, Ridgewood with a median household income in 2019 of $198,358 is filled with poor, uneducated , racist ,haters. Remember this is the woman that took away your school budget vote yet claims to promote more transparency in government.
In the past the affluence was like a tide that lifted all boats, but now Winograd and her sponsors want to bring everyone down to the same level. We did get a giggle pretending any of the developers gave a “rat’s behind” about people with disabilities unless they could figure out some way to make money out of it. The issue was pushed by the current council that’s the only reason we have housing for disabilities , period. .Fantasizing that Ridgewood let alone New Jersey is a great place to grow old is a joke .By almost every estimate New Jersey is possibly the worst place to retire on the planet .
With all the questions aimed at giving Winograd a chance to shine ,she still managed to fumble the ball, particularly on the silliness over the Volunteer EMT’s ,not accepting the fact that someone was caught sleeping and the temporary stipend program was terminated . The ensuing fight over that program hurt the reputation of Ridgewood EMS .
As for the Mayor, whether we agree with her or not she was the only one up there that communicated she knew what she was talking about . It was clear she had made the hard decisions , balanced many interests and saw no need to resuscitate pet projects that contribute nothing to the community at large or try to silence dissent. The Mayor was clearly heads over the other candidates , getting frustrated at times and on the defensive over the flow of misinformation .
I don’t know who wrote this, but I want some of whatever they are taking. DELUSIONAL. . She was a horrible, shrieking mess. I will never vote for Knudsen. I did, twice, but never again. She has disintegrated in the last year.
Van Goor is the only one I’m voting for. He is honest and clean. The other three have agendas up the Ying Yang.
Was Saraceno there…?
He was writing the questions 🙂
The LWV should never run this again. That was amateur hour.
Winograd. I saved 65k from the budget by eliminating your right to vote.
LWV, an organization centered on voter rights, supports the candidate who took ur right to vote away. Hmmm!
This should be the top line story. Can u move to the top at least for the entire day
One word for Knudsen: COMBATIVE
Love her fight
It would have been hard not to feel combative when your work of nearly a decade was being attacked with blatant lies and false claims while a sea of planted supporters of your opponents glared at you, laughed at you, and yes, openly booed. Horrible.
Yes, her reaction was a little over the top, perhaps, but clearly understandable. And let’s not forget that all council members from Time Immemorial are generous volunteers of their time, not professional pols with a staff of aides and speech coaches. Not to mention the microphones (see
In any case a candidate’s demeanor at this increasingly useless “debate,” an excuse for democracy (with a long history of alarmingly inept moderators) that needs to end now, indicates nothing about how he or she will behave on the council. Watch videos of the last two years of council meetings to see how calmly and intelligently Susan has comported herself while leading those meetings as mayor, and for another two years previously (sandwiching Hache’s mayoral stint). Even when dedicated gnomes such as Halaby stand there week after week insanely berating her, and she could have him thrown out, she doesn’t. (I would.) I doubt that any former mayor would allow him to spout his lies and insults to that extent. But she believes he has the right to speak. (I don’t.)
Not sure if that was Weitz’s sons who arrived halfway through the proceedings and sat in the front row, but one was so bored that he quickly began playing games on his large-screen laptop. When he got to Wordle, I told him to shut it off after his first entry (not a great choice despite what the NYT Wordle Bot claims) and he did.
The two newbies with zero experience in local government had no clue about anything. The best they could do was to faux-indignantly drum up old agendas: Schedler, pickleball, restore this or that committee that was removed for good reason, rework the EMS setup that has already been reworked to protect residents. Weitz wants to “go through the budget line by line,” he has said a million times; what’s been stopping him? Roger Wiegand did that for decades, quietly bringing to council meetings any omissions, errors, or discrepancies he had found. He has a street named after him. Weitz will go down again on November 8 and never be heard from again.
What I certainly won’t vote for is whoever set up the audio in that room.
Knudsen was a hot mess! Van Goor bless his soul was painful to watch.
Both my votes go to Van Goor
Public speaking is not fun. I took the Dale Carnegie course to help with it (twice a week for 14 weeks). It just takes practice.
That being said, some people should never speak publicly:

Winner: Knudsen
Loser: LWV
Oh honey….both were total losers.
This Vangoor guy doesn’t seem like a politician. That right there gets my vote.
I think most of us feel that we need all new candidates to run this town. Driving through the town yesterday it looked dirty, the roads are in terrible shape, most of us wonder what is going on. Since all this housing has been built the town is in worse shape than ever. I’m sure they’re receiving more money and taxes though. And stop hiring family and friends.& Some of the departments are not following civil service laws, in the fire & police they are. For the rest it’s a free For all. It’s not good, it’s not healthy,
Right , thumbs up all the way.
The ones who put thumbs down are a fool & a. Ass Kiss’er
People wake up. Have a set of balls. Push back. Don’t them walk over any one.
Thumbs up. We have a crew of the biggest ass kissy men you ever seen in your life. Just amazing, all they talk about is hot dogs and other people. You got to see these guys in this department. And you know what department, right, right,
