Hackensack NJ, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Hackensack, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco marked over a decade of leadership with his 12th Annual State of the County Address.
Speaking to a room of dignitaries, families, and residents, Tedesco painted a picture of a county that isn’t just surviving—it’s leading the state of New Jersey in safety, healthcare, and fiscal responsibility.
A 12-Year Legacy of Transformation
Tedesco used the address to reflect on the changes in Bergen County has undergone since he took office. From public health to the economy, the numbers tell a story of consistent growth and stability for the nearly 1 million residents who call Bergen home.
Key Highlights: The “Bergen Wins”
The County Executive outlined several major pillars that have defined what his considers his administration’s success:
-
Healthcare Excellence: The revitalization of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, now the 4th largest public hospital in the U.S., providing high-quality, affordable care.
-
National Safety Ranking: Thanks to historic investments in the Law and Public Safety Institute and the creation of Bergen EMS, Bergen County is now ranked the 9th safest county in the United States (and 3rd safest among “large” counties).
-
Fiscal Powerhouse: Bergen maintains the largest ratable base in New Jersey at $244 billion, all while keeping the 3rd lowest county tax rate in the state.
-
Green Space & Veterans: Continued enhancement of 10,000 acres of parkland and expanded services for the county’s vital senior and veteran populations.
“The work we have done over the past 12 years has made us a leader in the State, and an example of what can be done when you prioritize good government and fiscal responsibility.” — Jim Tedesco
Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for 2026 and Beyond
While the speech celebrated past victories, Tedesco remained focused on the challenges of tomorrow. His vision for the remainder of his term centers on:
-
Affordability: Finding new ways to keep Bergen County accessible for families.
-
Shared Services: Reducing the burden on local municipalities to save taxpayer dollars.
-
Modern Infrastructure: Ensuring the county remains the most “desirable and welcoming” place to live in the tri-state area.
“The state of our County is strong, and our future is indeed bright,” Tedesco concluded, promising to continue his work on behalf of the families of Bergen.
