Upon arrival, firefighters found the front of the house engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading into the residence. Using large master stream nozzles, firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze from the outside before entering the building. Due to the intensity of the fire, a second alarm was sounded, followed by a third alarm to provide additional manpower and support to the Borough of Fair Lawn.

Assistant Chief Ralph Rinaldo of the Fair Lawn Fire Department commented, “We encountered heavy fire upon our arrival. The members did a great job knocking the fire down using deck guns before entering the building. We mounted a very aggressive attack, but unfortunately, due to the fast-moving fire, we were unable to save the resident’s three cats.”

The fire resulted in extensive damage to the building, and firefighting efforts lasted for about an hour before the blaze was fully extinguished. Overhaul operations continued, and all remaining companies were cleared from the scene by 5 PM. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported to residents or firefighters.

The Saddle Brook and Elmwood Park Fire Departments also contributed manpower to the scene. Standby mutual aid was offered by the Glen Rock, Hawthorne, Garfield, and Paramus Fire Departments.

Approximately 45 firefighters responded to the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fair Lawn Fire Prevention Bureau.
