Paramus NJ, Three years after the “Big Blue” stores vanished from the landscape, Bed Bath & Beyond is staging a massive brick-and-mortar comeback in New Jersey. Through a strategic partnership and acquisition of The Container Store, the iconic brand is returning with a fresh physical footprint and a brand-new shopping experience.
Starting this month, a new hybrid retail model—The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond—will begin rolling out, blending the best of home organization with the classic home goods shoppers have missed.
The “Reset with Purpose”: What to Expect
The new store format isn’t just a name change; it’s a total redesign. To make room for the legendary Bed Bath & Beyond inventory, The Container Store has already begun liquidating nearly 30% of its current stock to “streamline assortments” and improve space productivity.
According to Jen Pape, Senior Vice President of Stores for The Container Store, this is a “reset with purpose.” The goal is to provide a comprehensive home experience that combines organization, décor, kitchenware, and in-home services under one roof.
New Jersey Locations: Is Your Town on the List?
The Garden State—Bed Bath & Beyond’s original home turf—will be among the first to see these revamped locations. Five key New Jersey stores are slated for the initial redesign:
-
Paramus: 370 Route 17 N.
-
Livingston: 372 W. Mount Pleasant Ave.
-
Bound Brook: 335 Chimney Rock Road
-
Princeton: 3506 Brunswick Ave.
-
Cherry Hill: 2000 Route 38
A Wild Ride Back to the Top
The journey back to physical aisles has been a complex one for the brand. Following its 2023 bankruptcy, the Bed Bath & Beyond intellectual property was purchased by Overstock.com (now known as Beyond Inc.) for $21.5 million. While the brand lived on as a digital-first retailer, the move to acquire The Container Store for $150 million marks its official return to physical retail.
This acquisition is expected to close in July, signaling a new chapter for the company, which also oversees brands like Kirkland’s and Overstock.
The Future of Buybuy Baby
While Bed Bath & Beyond finds its footing in physical stores again, its former sister brand, Buybuy Baby, has taken a different path. After a brief attempt at a brick-and-mortar revival by Dream on Me, the brand shifted to a “digital-first” model in late 2024, closing its physical storefronts to focus on online sales.
Stay Updated
For local shoppers in Paramus and Livingston, the return of the blue coupons (and the aisles that go with them) is a welcome change. Whether you’re looking for professional organization or that perfect set of high-thread-count sheets, the new hybrid stores are set to change the Jersey retail landscape once again.
