the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, as previously reported on this blog , Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser was asked to ascertain the feasibility of adding approximately 40 additional parking spaces at the Ridgewood train station. Mayor Susan Knudsen suggested that additional parking spaces might be added by removing some of the large, grass & tree covered center island in the current parking lot.
While the Village Engineer has attempted to upgrade the project to include moving the bus station, the simple solution and cost effective solution would just be to stick with adding the new spaces to the train station .It would ad the most spaces quickly and effectively.
It amounts to a small sacrifice of removing a few feet of grass with a net gain of anywhere from 28-40 spaces .
No it will not solve the whole problem but it will help out commuters , and generate more revenue for the Village with passes .
It will also shift commuters from taking up valuable spaces in front of merchants free ups spaces for shoppers.

I was driving through CBD today by around 8AM. I saw empty parking spots EVERYWHERE.Why not allow commuters to use these spots and pay a daily fee which is a little higher than the $1000/30 = $30/day ? Let’s say $40/day. Do these meters provide more than $40 income for the village from 7AM-6PM during the week? I doubt it. The negative impact would be minimal as I would assume that not a lot of people use CBD during weekdays.
NO garage is needed. Period. Those who want a garage are either lazy to think or lazy to walk.
sounds like a no brainer to me.
At 8 am the businesses are not open, of course there are empty spots.
These are the Fat cat top tier 1000 plus next years increased rates to cover construction et al,, scammed on the permit commuters last year.
Try leaving that lot today from 6 pm thru 730 PM ITS a back up shit show..quite dangerous to all ESP commuters on foot or bikes weaving thru blacktop..70 percent try to make right turn under overpass with competing left turners pedestrians on foot crossing the square..book a large insurance premium increase VOR
While we are at it we should make Van Neste park a little smaller and add more parking spaces. No one uses that park. There is enough park land in Ridgewood. We could shave some of that useless park land in the center of town and add another 40 spaces there if not more. Who needs a parking garage. Im sure the town engineer can come up with a plan to make that park a little smaller.
$30 or $40 a day to park. Where do I sign up?…….said no one ever!
I was just watching the council meeting and saw the head of the library Ms Green was talk about parking at the library. Maybe the Council should remove the Band Shell and place parking there. The Shell is old and only used on special occasion . The Library parking should have priority over a relic from the past ( Band Shell) .
To the above Concerned citizen: how do you get your facts? Have you ever been to CBD during the week? Of course not because your statement is false. Parking is still an issue durning the week days. Stop taking the green space away and redevelop the dilapidated eyesores that have been lingering around town. Building a three or four level parking garage in town would help vitalizing and bring people back to downtown.
if no one goes down town how is there a parking problem?
Agree 9:11!!! This is the worst council….let’s take down trees and grass for a few parking spaces to put a temporary band aid on the problem, instead of building a garage on an already concrete lot that would accommodate commuters, shoppers and diners. Oh but maybe we don’t need grass because we aren’t allowed to water it anyway – another ingenious solution approved by this council. We just pay taxes for services we can’t use.
Well said 11:34am
Old Ridgewood is afraid to make a change because it will destroy the downtown. The good all days .
11:34 you must be new in town if you think this is the worst council ever. This council is honest and is not in the pockets of the developers like Aronsohn and his crew were. Unlike the previous people, there are no ethics violations pending against any of them (Aronsohn and Sonenfeld). Unlike the previous group, no one on this council attempted to destroy a person’s career in order to keep them from running for office (Aronsohn). Unlike the previous council, no one on this council has conflicts of interest with developers and Valley (Hauck, Aronsohn, Pucciarelli). Unlike the previous council, this council engages in friendly dialog with people who come to meetings instead of calling them names like terrorist, stalker, etc (Hauck, Pucciarelli, Aronsohn, Sonenfeld). Unlike the previous council, this council does not have their spouses posting trash about their colleagues on social media (Hauck). Unlike the previous council, no one has signed a police complaint against any of them for their outrageous behaviour. Yep, you must be new in town if you think this is the worst council ever.
10:46 I am not new in town I have lived here 25 years. Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t give you the right to tell me I don’t know better. Maybe you’re the one who has it all wrong.
