Ridgewood NJ, It was 79 years ago today, at 7:48 AM local time, that 353 aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. There was no declaration of war, but we were plunged into war by the attack.
In the 75 minute attack, all 8 battleships were hit, 4 of them sunk and 8 other ships were also either sunk or damaged. In the attack, 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,403 Americans were killed, and 1,178 others were wounded.
“December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy,” President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously proclaimed.
Today Americans will honor the 79th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
The surprise raid on the major U.S. Navy base near Honolulu killed more than 2,400 Americans and left another 1,100 injured. In short, the strike signaled the entry of the United States into World War II.
One of the best generations ever. We all need to think of grandparents. Because the bullshit that’s going on today is ridiculous.
Your grandparents, who dealt with wartime rationing and blackouts, would be appalled at “whats going on today”. They would smack you for making such a big deal about freaking masks in public, for one.
13% of those grandparents — if they got COVID today — would be dead, so there would be a little less smacking going on.
Your grandparents, who dealt with wartime rationing and blackouts, would be appalled at “whats going on today”. They would smack you for wearing a mask and making such a big deal about a freaking virus, for one.
