Ridgewood NJ, a tractor trailer driver narrowly avoided a life-threatening accident on Route 17 southbound in Ridgewood on Tuesday, October 22. The 40-year-old driver sustained only minor injuries after a malfunction occurred while he was troubleshooting his disabled vehicle on the roadside.

The incident took place late Tuesday morning when the driver parked his tractor trailer on the right shoulder of Route 17. While investigating why the trailer had become partially dislodged from the tractor, the driver crawled beneath the vehicle to assess the situation. Suddenly, the air-filled system meant to balance the trailer failed, sending the trailer crashing down.

Luckily, the driver had deployed the trailer’s landing gear, which kept the trailer from fully collapsing and saved him from what could have been a serious or fatal injury.

Ridgewood Police, along with the Ridgewood Fire Department and EMS, responded swiftly to the scene. The driver was transported to The Valley Hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries, which were reported to be minor. A tow truck was later dispatched to handle the disabled vehicle.

While the driver escaped serious harm, the incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can occur during roadside repairs and the importance of safety measures like deploying landing gear in emergency situations.
