Traffic changes in Ridgewood are approved

With the exception of one proposal, changes to traffic laws on streets near Ridgewood public schools approved by Village Council have been met with general applause from the public.
The streets with sections slated for law changes are Bedford Road, West Ridgewood Avenue, Dean Street, Bogert Avenue, Fairfield Avenue, Downs Street, Houston Lane and North Hillside Place.
According to the current amendment proposal, left turns are prohibited within certain school hours at the Bedford intersection with Morningside Road and the West Ridgewood Avenue intersection with North Hillside Place.
Additionally, a stop sign will be added on Dean Street at the South Broad Street intersection; parking will be prohibited at all times on a section of the west side of Bogert Avenue and during certain hours for sections on the east side of Fairfield Avenue and the west side of Bogert Avenue. There will be no stopping or standing during certain hours on sections differing from past mandates on Houston Lane, Downs Street and North Hillside Place.
Other traffic mandates in Chapter 265 may be deleted, including a “no stopping or standing during certain hours” ordinance on a section of Fairfield Avenue.
“The whole ordinance was tailored to what the school safety committee had requested,” said Village Engineer Chris Rutishauser.

More laws won’t fix the problems. The same ‘helicopter parents’ aka ‘ridgewood moms’ that clog the streets with their monster SUVs, chatting on the cell, drinking their lattes, instead of allowing their children to walk to school.
They block Morningside in front of Willard, and W. Ridgewood in front of Ridge. Part of the new ‘I-don’t-give-a-crap-about-anyone-except-me” residents.
