RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A large tree fell early this morning in the 400 block of South Pleasant Avenue, blocking traffic and disrupting utility services to at least one single-family home, according to local reports. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
🌳 Downed Tree Causes Traffic and Utility Issues
The fallen tree, described as older growth, collapsed during the early morning hours amid wind and rain, a recurring issue in the Village of Ridgewood, where many mature trees line residential streets.
The incident temporarily blocked South Pleasant Avenue to vehicular traffic while emergency crews and utility workers responded. Electric and communications services were reportedly interrupted at one nearby home, but were expected to be restored later in the day.
🌬️ Weather and Aging Trees a Persistent Issue in Ridgewood
The Village of Ridgewood is known for its tree-lined streets and mature landscaping, but these older growth trees can become vulnerable during severe weather, especially during high winds and heavy rainfall. Fallen trees and branches have caused similar disruptions in the past, prompting ongoing discussions about tree maintenance and public safety.
🚧 Ridgewood DPW and Utility Crews Respond
Ridgewood Department of Public Works and utility crews arrived on the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The road was cleared of debris and power restoration efforts began immediately.
Local officials remind residents to report any sagging branches or leaning trees to Ridgewood’s Parks or Public Works departments and to use caution during storms or windy conditions.

We wonder how many years is she tree division behind in pruning I know years ago they were like five years behind, then they threw the list away. And started fresh. I’m sure they gotta be here as behind. Don’t let anybody bullshit you with thumbs down because I know the real scoop.🧐
This tree was on private property.
Did this tree have a village permit to fall ?
If a tree falls on the east side does it matter?
Oh, don’t get me started. Whatever the answer, you can bet I’ll still be subsidizing the kids on that side of town. Totally unfair.
Was it invasive or evasive? This is very important.
