Ridgewood NJ, former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard announced her endorsement of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump during a National Guard conference in Michigan. Gabbard, a retired Hawaii congresswoman and former Democratic presidential candidate who served in Iraq and Kuwait, praised Trump for his foreign policy during his first term as president.
“I’m committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our commander in chief,” Gabbard declared. She emphasized Trump’s understanding of the “grave responsibility” a president holds, especially for the lives of military personnel. “Whether you’re a soldier, an airman, a marine, sailor, or Coastie, he keeps us in his heart in the decisions that he makes,” she added.
Gabbard highlighted Trump’s approach to foreign policy, noting that during his first term, he did not initiate any new wars and took steps to deescalate existing conflicts. As the nation heads toward the November election, Gabbard contrasted Trump with the current Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, implying that Harris does not share the same commitment to avoiding conflict.
The conference also provided Trump an opportunity to reflect on the third anniversary of the tragic loss of 13 U.S. service members during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration. “They took the soldiers out first … at our expense and our reputation,” Trump said, criticizing the administration’s handling of the situation. “We will never forget those brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for our country.”
Trump also warned of the current global tensions, stating, “I don’t think we’ve ever been closer to World War III than we are right now.”
Gabbard’s endorsement marks a significant moment in the 2024 election, showcasing her break from the Democratic Party and her alignment with Trump’s vision for America’s future, particularly in the realm of foreign policy.
