Twp. of Washington NJ, 2020 LEAF COLLECTION BEGINS NOVEMBER 2, 2020 – Under New Jersey’s Recycling Law, leaves must be composted. The Township’s composting facility will only accept bulk leaves, free of debris and branches. Residents are requested to place leaves at the curb for collection by the Township’s equipment in accordance with the ZONES and DATES listed on the DPW’s webpage. CREWS WILL WORK FROM WEST TO EAST IN EACH ZONE. A second pass of each zone shall start after the completion of the first collection. All leaves are to be placed at the curb no later than December 6, 2020. During leaf collection season, the DMF yard will be closed Tuesday but remain open on Saturday & there is no white goods pick up.
DO NOT RAKE LEAVES INTO THE STREET. If you live on a County Road (Pascack, Washington, Van Emburgh, E. Glen, Linwood, Ridgewood, Wearimus), please put leaves in barrels or brown biodegradable bags. PLASTIC BAGS ARE NOT TO BE USED – NO EXCEPTIONS.
OTHER MATERIALS SUCH AS DEBRIS, GRASS CLIPPNGS, AND BRANCHES ARE NOT TO BE PLACED WITH LEAVES. Leaves and other yard debris may be brought to the DMF Yard on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. However, leaves being brought to the DMF Yard must be in barrels or biodegradable bags only. NO PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
REMINDERS:
FOR SAFETY REASONS DO NOT PARK VEHICLES ON LEAVES!
DO NOT PLACE LEAVES ON OR NEAR FIRE HYDRANTS.
KEEP LEAVES AT LEAST 10 FEET AWAY FROM CATCH BASINS AS PER DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REGULATIONS.
LEAVES MAY NOT BE PUT AT CURB OR ALONG STREET LINE MORE THAN SEVEN (7) DAYS PRIOR TO SCHEDULED COLLECTION DATE.
LEAVES MIXED WITH BRANCHES OR DEBRIS WILL CLOG THE LEAF MACHINE AND WILL NOT BE PICKED UP ON COUNTY ROADS.
CHRISTMAS TREES WILL BE PICKED UP AT THE CURB STARTING JANUARY 7 AND WILL LAST ABOUT 2 WEEKS. *THERE IS NO SET SCHEDULE PICKUP.
NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL LUMBER, TIRES, COMPRESSED CYLINDERS, OR RECYCLABLE ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE DMF YARD.

  1. I’m old enough to remember when my neighbors would burn their leaves.

  2. Oh yes come by my house I’m still burning them. But you need to do it right needs to be controlled. And it smells nice. Unfortunately laws rules have changed because people are not careful and things got out-of-control And fire departments We’re tired to respond to leaf fires.
