Ridgewood, NJ – Despite a blistering summer heat wave, Ridgewood’s Department of Public Works and local officials have made notable progress on several infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility, safety, and public convenience across the Village.
According to Village Manager Keith Kazmark, the Ridgewood team has been hard at work all summer, tackling critical projects from bridge resurfacing to road improvements and public transportation upgrades.
Footbridge Resurfacing Enhances Access for July 4th and Beyond
Just ahead of the 4th of July fireworks celebration, Ridgewood’s Public Works crew successfully resurfaced the footbridge connecting the Graydon South parking lot to Veterans Field.
Previously in disrepair and difficult to cross—especially for residents with mobility challenges and families with strollers—the new bridge surface dramatically improved accessibility for the holiday event.
“The new surface made getting to the fireworks display easy!” said Kazmark, who also thanked the team responsible for the timely improvement.
Hammond Road Gets Safety and Drainage Upgrades
Work continues on Hammond Road, where crews are installing new curbs and drainage systems. These upgrades are designed to enhance safety while addressing long-standing runoff and flooding issues in the area. The Village remains committed to modernizing its roadways while prioritizing resident safety and infrastructure resilience.
New Van Neste Square Bus Shelter Funded by $146K NJDOT Grant
In another major development, Ridgewood has been awarded a $146,935 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for the construction of a new bus shelter at Van Neste Square.
“Thank you to NJDOT Commissioner O’Connor for recognizing the importance of this project and securing the funding,” said Kazmark.
The Village’s Engineering Department is now working to finalize the shelter’s design, with construction expected to begin later this year. The new bus shelter will enhance commuter experience while improving the functionality of a key public transit hub.
Looking Ahead: More Projects on the Horizon
With summer still underway, Ridgewood isn’t slowing down. These upgrades are part of a broader commitment to infrastructure modernization, sustainability, and improved quality of life for Village residents.
Stay tuned for more updates as Ridgewood continues to move forward—rain, shine, or heat wave.

Regardless of where the money is coming from, spending $146,000 on a Taj Mahal bus shelter is simply criminal!
