West Milford NJ, a West Milford councilman is facing charges of criminal sexual contact following allegations of inappropriate behavior at a party earlier this month, according to law enforcement officials who spoke late Thursday afternoon.
Matthew Conlon, who holds positions as a municipal councilman, Board of Education member, and chairman of the Young Republican Federation of New Jersey, was charged via summons after West Milford Police received a report on February 4th. The report indicated that Conlon “touched the intimate part of an adult victim in an unwelcome and inappropriate manner within a residence in the township,” as stated in a February 15th announcement by Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes who has had many of her own accusations and West Milford Township Police Chief Shannon Sommerville.
Conlon has been charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and harassment, following an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the West Milford Police Department.
If found guilty, Conlon could face up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison for the sexual contact offense, and 30 days in county jail for the harassment charge.
First elected to the West Milford town council in 2022, Conlon was previously recognized as the youngest school board member in township history. Additionally, he serves as a county representative on the Republican State Committee, holding a three-year term set to end in December 2025.
