Westwood NJ, the borough of Westwood Borough and the Westwood Recreation Department celebrated its third annual Westwood New Year’s (Early) Eve Celebration on Saturday, December 31 from 4:30-6:00pm at Veterans’ Park. Children and children at heart had the opportunity to meet characters from Disney’s Frozen, with a photo area sponsored by Meals on Wheels North Jersey. Sponsor Sponsor Fritz Dietl Ice Rink was also in attendance with a NHL Rangers alumni player and the Westwood Police Department was represented with a community outreach tent and a dedicated local officer.
Celebrate Westwood also brought back its “New Years Wish Trees” and invites attendees of all ages to stop by the table to pick up a free tag, fill out a wish for the new year, and hang it on one of the trees crafted in 2021 by resident Eric Doughtery.
The event was free to Westwood residents, including noise makers for children while supplies last (bringing your own noisemakers is also encouraged!). Some items were available for purchase, including hot cocoa and treats from Conrad’s truck. Celebrate Westwood encouraged attendees to explore dining and shopping options downtown before and after the event, being aware of holiday hours and reservation requirements.
Westwood Mayor Ray Arroyo said in a Facebook post :
“This was a great event.
Well attended by so many children and families.
Thanks to the WVFD for the ladder truck ball drop.
Your timing was perfect !
And special thanks to the Westwood Recreation Department and Celebrate Westwood Volunteers for setting up in the mist.
Lauren Letizia and RoseAnn Ciarlante did their usual, fabulous job! (With their own families pressed into set up duty!)
Just as the rain had stopped before this season’s Home for the Holiday Parade , the mists dissipated just in time for these New Year ‘s Eve family friendly festivities.
Is Westwood lucky or blessed ?
I’m going with blessed AND lucky …lucky to have resident volunteers who work so hard just to put smiles on our faces. They never blow their own horns. But their ongoing contribution, their remarkable labor of love , does not go unnoticed.
And it is deeply appreciated!”
