Why not offer developers in Ridgewood incentives to provide public parking?

Parking Garage

Ridgewood NJ , Here’s a question for those so eager to sink millions of taxpayer dollars into the construction of a massive parking garage in Ridgewood’s Central Business District (CBD):

Why not offer any developer who would like to build luxury (not high density) housing in the CBD, an incentive of some sort if public parking is included as a component of their project?

If the need for public parking is as bad as those promoting the construction of a taxpayer funded garage say it is, wouldn’t it make sense to have each developer offer public parking in their respective buildings?  Especially any developer(s) who want to build near the train station and/or concentration of restaurants along Oak and Chestnut Streets?

  1. Build the smaller deck that will increase the number of spaces that can do the job and be paid for now. Other locations can be considered later. Stay with the smaller deck process now please.

  2. Great idea Boyd. Would be fantastic if they take you up on the suggestion. Of course they will make it seem like their own idea, but it would be so worth it if they actually took this sane approach

  3. Private concerns are much more concerned with the bottom line & are actually experienced in development. This idea would detract from whatever they have already allotted & is probably a non-starter. They are looking for certain amounts of units per acre & more than likely want to greatly diminish that & the village probably would not allow further expansion on the footprint. Nice thought, however.

  4. One thing is for sure. If a private developer built a garage it would be done within budget.

  5. This is a great suggestion Boyd
