Wood-Ridge NJ, few entertainers can claim success in both Hollywood and professional auto racing, but Frankie Muniz has carved out a unique path that merges both worlds. In 2024, the former child star is set for an exciting year, making his full-time NASCAR debut while also reprising his iconic television role.
Frankie Muniz Joins NASCAR as a Full-Time Driver
Muniz, 39, will hit the track as a permanent competitor in the NASCAR Truck Series, making his debut on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway. The race is a key event leading up to the legendary Daytona 500, set for Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
This marks Muniz’s first full-time NASCAR season after years of sporadic appearances in select races. In 2023, he competed as a full-time driver in the ARCA Menards Series, a feeder division for NASCAR. Now, he’s stepping up to the bigger stage, driving the No. 33 truck for Reaume Brothers Racing.
A Lifelong Passion for Racing
Muniz’s love for racing isn’t new. While he skyrocketed to fame as the lead character in “Malcolm in the Middle” (2000-2006) and starred in films like Big Fat Liar and Agent Cody Banks, he always had a passion for motorsports. Over the past decade, he gradually shifted focus from Hollywood to the racetrack, proving himself as a serious competitor.
‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Returns on Disney+
While Muniz is gearing up for NASCAR, he’s also preparing for a return to television. In December, Disney+ announced a four-episode revival of “Malcolm in the Middle”, bringing back original cast members Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as Malcolm’s parents.
Although a release date has yet to be confirmed, Muniz revealed on Instagram that filming is set to take place this spring—right in the middle of his NASCAR season.
Balancing Hollywood and NASCAR
Muniz has embraced the challenge of juggling two demanding careers. He explained his tight schedule, saying:
“It’s going to make my April pretty interesting. The show films Sunday through Thursday, and I’ll wrap my scenes on Wednesday to fly out for my weekend races before heading back to set.”
Despite his acting comeback, Muniz insists that racing remains his primary focus:
“My focus will still be being in the race car, but I’ll just have to do a little bit of acting on the side.”
From Wood-Ridge to the Racetrack
Born in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, and later raised in North Carolina, Muniz’s journey from TV stardom to professional racing is nothing short of remarkable. Now, with a NASCAR career in full gear and a beloved sitcom making a return, 2024 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year for him.
Stay tuned for updates on Frankie Muniz’s NASCAR journey and “Malcolm in the Middle” revival as both projects unfold!
