>Yes, the math moms already knew this, but does Botsford, Bombace and our Board of Ed, which is busy preparing our kids to be ranked 17th in reading and 20th in math out of a mere 26 states tested? It’s tough to be beaten by South Carolina, much less New Mexico, Kansas and Nevada! Here are some excerpts from the story by reporter Kathleen Carroll:
“When you hear your third-grader passed this year’s statewide reading test, is it a gold-star moment? Maybe not, according to a new report. New Jersey’s tests for elementary school students are pretty easy compared with the exams in other states, according to the report released today by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute in Washington. Researchers ranked tests for Grades 3-8 in 26 states by difficulty. States with the hardest tests:

1. South Carolina

>Our board members sure don’t listen to us parents, but maybe they will give pause to this Record article … and then maybe not.
>Notice how California is #2 in reading and #3 in math. Good move on
CA’s part to have legislated out TERC. Ridgewood, I guess, gets its sloppy rejects courtesy of Regina the all seeing overseer and Bombace the leader of the blind.
>Didn’t BOE President Bombace gloat at a meeting about Ridgewood meeting the state standards? Given the statistics, that is nothing to gloat about Mr. Presidente.
>Remember Muammer Qaddafi. He started out in the military and made it as far as a Colonel. So when he became president of the country, he ruled that “Colonel” would be the highest rank anyone could attain.
Reminds me of the present leader of our esteemed BOE.
>I’ve just read the above comments and I don’t see where anyone needs to “calm down” 5:11.
>Thought I heard the following comment emanating from the halls of Cottage Place–
…I’m a board of ed member and before that I served on the HSA and on Federated. So I know how to smile, reassure parents and still be proud to be towards the bottom of such a list.
>You like citing reports so much how about using this report?
https://www.njsba.org/sb_notes/20071003/njstudents.html
>love the report but only because I’ve seen the OTHER report that shows our state scores mapped to the NAEP results (its very telling at just how much states like say NJ puff themselves up)
… but that is like saying — gee look at Willard – its tests scores are great so whats Ridgewood complaining about …
Reading on your link about Massachuesetts is more impressive -because they have good standards, their NAEP to state proficiency scores mapping is NOT as wide spread as NJs, and towns there have ABANDONED TERC!
At the end of the day are you attempting to ARGUE that TERC2 and CMP2 are appropriate?
Because at the end of the day, much of what folks are posting here is in DIRECT response to such a thought.
TERC2 and CMP2 are not appropriate. And even if Botsford and Leininger and Muller all want to plow ahead with it, it will not stop many kids from becoming mathematically capable because they are learning math ELSEWHERE.
And that is the entire point.
(finally, post 6:37 was from Botsford – who else would be so desperate to continue to defend that which is readily and widely known to be disliked in this town)
>It is just impossible to adequately defend’s NJ’s state standards.
It is unthinkable that ANYONE would use NJ state standards as a goal in Ridgewood. This is a huge insult to all taxpayers.
Such a person or persons should be removed from their jobs as soon as is humanly possible.
Bombace and Botsford must be stripped of their positions and authority post haste.
Then, let the healing begin…..
