Ridgefield Park NJ, A massive mutual-aid response was triggered in Bergen County on Saturday evening, June 13, 2026, as heavy smoke and flames tore through a residential home in Ridgefield Park. While all occupants managed to escape safely, two local firefighters were injured while battling the fierce blaze.
The fast-moving fire drew emergency responders from nearly a dozen surrounding communities to secure the scene and prevent further disaster.
Quick Response to Heavy Smoke and Flames on 7th Street
The emergency call came in at 6:47 p.m., dispatching the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department to 96 7th Street for a reported structure fire.
Assistant Chief Zardoya (arriving in Car 2) was first on the scene, immediately confirming heavy smoke and active flames venting from the building. Recognizing the severity of the situation, a working fire assignment was transmitted by 6:51 p.m. to rapidly pull in additional resources.
Aggressive Interior Attack and Second Alarm
Crews quickly mobilized an “aggressive fire attack,” stretching lines into the burning building while simultaneously conducting primary and secondary searches across all levels of the home to ensure no residents were trapped inside.
To ensure the rest of the village remained protected during the intense operation, a second alarm was transmitted, bringing in regional backup to provide firehouse coverage for subsequent emergencies.
Multiple Towns Provide Vital Mutual Aid
The technical firefight and overhaul efforts required an extensive network of regional first responders. Firefighters from Hackensack, Teaneck, and Bogota rushed to the scene to assist Ridgefield Park crews with directly extinguishing the flames and checking for hidden pockets of fire.
A robust secondary support network also assisted at the scene or provided regional coverage, including:
-
Fire Departments: Englewood, Little Ferry, and Leonia.
-
Emergency & Medical Services: Ridgefield Park Police, Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Holy Name Medical Center, Englewood Hospital, and County Wide Rehab.
Injuries and Investigation
While officials confirmed that no residents were injured, two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the interior attack. Both were safely transported to Holy Name Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown and is currently under active investigation by the Ridgefield Park Bureau of Fire Prevention and local fire officials.
