
Tragedy at the Palisades: Body of Man Recovered from State Line Lookout in Alpine

Alpine NJ, An overnight emergency response ended in heartbreak along the Hudson River cliffs today. Early Sunday morning, June 14, 2026, emergency crews successfully recovered the body of a man in his 30s from the State Line Lookout in Alpine, New Jersey.
Local law enforcement authorities believe the individual tragically jumped from the cliffs.
Midnight Discovery Sparks Massive First Responder Mobilization
The incident began at approximately 2:45 a.m. when a Palisades Interstate Parkway Police officer on routine patrol noticed an unattended vehicle parked near the cliffside. Upon inspection, the officer discovered personal belongings left inside the vehicle, immediately raising alarms.
By 3:00 a.m., a massive mutual-aid rescue response was dispatched to the scenic Alpine lookout to initiate a difficult recovery operation.
Specialized Rescue Teams Deploy to the Cliffs
Due to the sheer drop and dangerous terrain of the Palisades cliffs, the East Bergen Rappel and High Angle Rescue Team was called to the scene. This highly specialized unit is comprised of technical rescue experts from multiple local departments, including:

Operating under dark and hazardous conditions, the technical rescue specialists concluded the recovery operations at approximately 7:30 a.m. The identity of the man has not yet been released pending family notification.
