(CNSNews.com) – The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says the real cost of the federal government guaranteeing the business of failed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is $317 billion — not the $130 billion normally claimed by the Obama administration.

>State health officials examine the proposal by Hackensack University Medical Center and , Legacy Hospital Partners, to spend nearly $40 million to renovate the former Pascack Valley Hospital

N.J. reviews hospital plan near Pearl River

WESTWOOD, N.J. — New Jersey officials have begun reviewing a plan that would open a new general acute-care hospital a few miles over the Rockland County border.

State health officials will examine the proposal by Hackensack University Medical Center and its partner, Legacy Hospital Partners, a private Texas company, to spend nearly $40 million to renovate the former Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J. The proposed hospital would provide 128 beds and could open by the end of next year.

Hackensack University Medical Center submitted the Certificate of Need application last week to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

When the project was first announced in 2008, top officials from both Nyack Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern wrote letters to New Jersey officials urging them not to approve the new, for-profit hospital at the Pascack location.

Bill designed to give economic boost to N.J. craft brewers, brewpubs

A bill that would loosen some of the production restrictions under which brewpubs or craft brewers operate is seen by its sponsor as a long-overdue boost to that industry and to the state’s overall economy.  (Mooney, State Street Wire)

In a stunning display of strange bedfellows, Gov. Chris Christie and Democratic power broker George Norcross took to a Camden graduation stage on Friday to call for the immediate passage of the tuition tax credit bill that would provide up to $12,000 vouchers for low-income students in select districts to attend private schools.  (Mooney, NJ Spotlight)

Celebrate the Constitution : the Black Founders and the Continental Army

Celebrate the Constitution : the Black Founders and the Continental Army

In keeping with this year’s theme is “Celebrate the Constitution” for the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration ,the Ridgewood blog will be running a series of post under the “Celebrate the Constitution” label ,featuring the founding fathers ,their stories and their ideas .

We are going to start with what may surprise many of you ;the Black founders and yes there were many of them . The Black Founders are reprinted with permission from The Founders, Religion and Government (Facebook) https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Founders-Religion-and-Government/106677312693315

For many years the actions of black men, women, and children in our nation’s founding has been largely ignored. The enslavement of black Americans was prominent, not their contributions. We read about those slaves who joined the British Army to gain their freedom. But what of the thousands of blacks who served this country in her hour of need? Their deeds were no less important than those of their white neighbors. They fought and died on the battlefields. They road the countryside as couriers. They held office. The wrote in support of independence. The led their communities.

Today we are going to start with the Continental Army itself.

Many black men served as soldiers in the American Revolution. The number is between 12,000 and 15,000. Some were slaves fighting for the promise of freedom. Others were free blacks fighting for their country’s liberty. They served in an integrated army, the last one until the Korean War. By 1779, 15% of the Continental Army was black. These men fought in the very first Battles of Lexington and Concord all the way to the final major battle at Yorktown. They saw action in every major engagement including Ticonderoga, Monmouth, and Princeton. They suffered at Valley Forge and crossed the Delaware with Washington. Every colony except South Carolina and Georgia sent black men with the white men to fight.

In addition to the integrated units, there were also three all black units that served: the Rhode Island First regiment, who fought with distinction at Newport, Monmouth and Yorktown; the Black Bucks of America, a Massachusetts regiment whose banner is still on display at the Massachusetts Historical Society; and the Volunteer Chasseurs, a regiment from Haiti brought over by our French allies. The latter unit took the ideas of liberty back to Haiti with them. Those ideas were used to overthrow their French masters and create the second republic in the Americas.

>Graydon Pool : The disheartening use of a tragic death to make cheap points

>Graydon Pool : The disheartening use of a tragic death to make cheap points
PJ Blogger and the Staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood – NJ It is very disheartening to see certain people and groups in town continue to try to make cheap points  on the tragic drowning of Soo Hyeon Park in order to promote there version of a  $13 or is $20 million “action park”  like water park they want installed at tax payer expense  in what now sits Historic Graydon Pool .

It is a new low in public discourse . Regardless of the outcome of the law suite against the Village no amount of money will ever bring this child back . Resident were horrified over the incident  and the entire Village shared in the sadness of the families loss until of coarse some people saw the death as an opportunity to push forward their own agenda .

It is extremely distasteful at best and offensive to most to use a child’s death  as being emblematic of your cause. Even the attorney for the family has distanced himself from the whole “action park” cause stating over and over that he is representing his clients and that’s it. It is also no wounder that the distinguished David Bolger as dropped the project saying at the time that is was just to controversial .

The fact of the matter is that the Boy did not speak English, and could not swim !  Even highly trained US servicemen drowned within less than 1 minute at Omaha Beach on D-Day .

Far more people have been hit by cars or killed in crosswalks in Ridgewood in the last 5 years than drowned at Graydon Pool in 100 years .

Few if any town pools in Bergen County have increased membership in the last 10 years , most municipal pools now invite in all takers.

The parking meters in Ridgewood routinely lose more money than Graydon Pool.  In fact a certain Golden Toilet at Vets Field cost 3 to 4 seasons of Graydons losses.

Despite the hype there was no proof that any money was every raised to renovate Graydon nor were there any proof of any huge demand  for the “action park ” idea. The claim of 6,000 new members was specious and never materialized. The Ridgewood blog will publish all that names of the families that are gracious enough to put up the cash for the new pool if they are willing to show themselves.

Yes the pool needs some modernization and some upgrades but the “action park ” group immediately proposed the most expensive $14 million proposal they could find making the project in a recessionary environment DOA.

In Europe the natural look is all the rage for pools and you would think in this “eco” crazy environment Historic Graydon would be a given.

Graydon for decades was the cultural center of Ridgewood summers , it was more than just a pool ,its was a place to go be seen ,play basketball, hang out and enjoy the sun . Graydon is an opportunity so few people have. Like a lot of kids  I learned how to swim there and that’s the magic words ,learn how to swim.

>More and More Americans think the economy will never come back

> More and More Americans think the economy will never come back

The mixed signals regarding the economy’s health are taking a toll.

About 10 percent of Americans say they never expect their spending to return to pre-recession levels.
Americans are growing increasingly doubtful about direction of the US economy, according to the latest survey from business-advisory firm AlixPartners.

In fact, an increasing number, some 61 percent, say they don’t expect to return to their respective pre-recession lifestyles until the spring of 2014, if ever.
What’s worse, a full 10 percent said they expect they will never return to pre-recession spending.
That’s a more pessimistic view than last year, when those surveyed expected that they could be back to pre-recession spending levels by the middle of 2013.
